I got a nasty cold Thanksgiving week and the cough was still lingering until this week.

I was able to get rid of the cough last week, but still congested from that cold

Try Mucinex. Used to get horrible congestion with colds and such. Now at the start of something I start taking Mucinex and congestion is lessened and goes away faster. It works wonders for me.

Yes, good stuff.
NAC is better. Mucinex shrinks you dick.

Both my 2 yr old and 10 mo old caught it a couple weeks ago. They were able to get through it with no trouble, but it still scared the **** out of me.

Sad.

Was reading e-mails tonight. Two teenagers whose family were church members just died. One was a suicide. Don't know about the other one. Tragic. I had met both of the boys, but didn't know them very well.

I’ve never had the flu. I’ve gotten the shot some years and not gotten it other years. UAB hospital is running low on beds due to flu admissions. I’ve been around hundreds of flu patients in my career too. Guess I’m just lucky.

RE: H3N2
My results showed I had this strain 5 weeks ago. Sickest I have been in the last 30 years.

Day 1 : tried to stay awake, ended up sleeping 20 hours. Not good sleep, the sleep with weird as **** dreams that keep looping. Wife told me she came into the room and I had all the covers thrown off and stripped down to my chonies. She told me she talked me into putting the thermometer in and I had 101.8.

Day 2 : woke up stumbled out and proclaimed I felt better, then immediately went back to sleep on the couch for another 8 hours, Again had fever dreams. Woke up went back into the bedroom and back to sleep. Wife took my temp (which I remember this one) and was 103.4. She fed me aspirin which supposedly broke the fever, but my wife was concerned. Ended sleeping abut 18 hours. Fever came back to 102.4 for about an two hours late afternoon. Had a high grade fever for about 6 hours total.

Day 3 : woke up early. Felt beat up and tired. Stayed awake for about 8 hours until just after 2 pm. Trundled back to bed for about 6 hours. Overall awake for abut 14 hours, almost all with a low grade fever.

Day 4 : woke up around 8 am, and was hungry as hell (no food at all for almost all of the preceding three days). Wife was out doing errands and she texted me, so I begged for a double meat Sonic. She got it back to me abut 9.30 am and I chowed it down like a feral child, then rolled over and went back to sleep for 5 hours. Woke up around 3ish in the afternoon, and felt alive for the first time in four days.

Mind you my wife had *never* seen me sick more than a long day.

Tests came back as H3N2. Funny thing is wife didnt get it, but it turned out she got that strain abut two years back when she was visiting her parents.

This year's flu seriously sucks.

Ended dropping over 7 pounds on this thing.

^^^^ this all day long

I've only had the flu once (you know your body and know when you're fk'd) when I was 20......I would tumble out of the waterbed, crawl to fridge, and roll the beer back to the sack living in the shack.....I literally couldn't stand up.....

that was 3 days of hell.....I was an invalid trying to cure it with budweiser....

the stupidity of ze college days.......

the only thing that I've experienced that is comparable was when I caught pneumonia a couple of years ago....I literally crawled into the ER for that one.....it was amazing how quickly they stabbed the outer cavity to drain the fluid to relieve the pressure......what was really cool was when the antibiotics didn't fix the inner infection.....they then give you a a local numbing agent, and literally puncture the lung.....

doc says, "man, I've never seen anyone so calm during this procedure".....I told him, "after the pain level I was experiencing when I crawled into this ******, that was a pin prick"

the strangest part about all that, is they insert a tube into your lung after the procedure that is a attached to a three tiered cylindrical receptacle......you then get to see how much yuckkyness exists inside your body.....

infection.....she's a biatch....

and since we don't do the tango well, hell no to the flu shot......

I get the flu shot every year. If anyone has gotten the flu immediately after getting the flu shot then they already had the flu before they got the shot.

Well, add the fact that the "virus" in the flu shot is already dead, one is not going to get the flu virus from the shot anyway. With that said, I can see why some folks seem to think they can get the virus from the shot. On one hand they more than likely already had the flu prior to the shot and second, the flu vaccine takes approximately two weeks to be effective. So, one can also get the flu for approximately two weeks after receiving the shot. As for me, I primarily get the vaccine as it lessens the chance of me passing the flu to my kids, etc.

I don’t understand the whole doubting if vaccinations either. That mindset could be very dangerous to a society.

IDK why some people put more belief into a one time discredited article than years and years of medical research.

The reason I dont get the flu shot is become I dont think is that effective. Especially knowing that they are pretty much guessing on the strand. Given the fact that only 30% of the flu shots were effective, it just confirmed my stand a little bit more. I rather take my chances with the flu (which this is probably the second time I have gotten it all of my life) than with something thats not really effective.

I can see that point of view. However, I'll take 30% effective versus 0% any day. Regardless, I keep a bottle of Tamiflu ready just in case. 04-cheers

I'm not disagreeing with your decision (which easily makes sense in your case since you could easily also contract/transmit the flu from/to your kids)....

I've simply chosen the path of staying away from people as much as possible as a defense mechanism during major outbreaks.....

hell, just walking into a clinic increases the risk of contraction during an outbreak.....

I'm of the opinion that each individual should make the decision based on their situation.....

if I implied otherwise, I can only say that was not my intent, and should've been more specific.....

Tamiflu was hard to come by when I finally went to the doctor and got it prescribed.

The bold will be harder and harder to do if more and more people refuse to vaccinate.

Yeah, it's expensive too even with insurance. I've never used the entire bottle either which is why I keep it around for a little while afterwards. I do remember there being a shortage a couple of years ago. I think there is actually a shortage now in California given 20+ people have already died from the flu.
