Try this one

The proposed stadium will include 45,000 permanent seats and space for 10,000 more temporary seats. The facility would also have 90,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space.

Carrington said the facility could be used for UAB football, soccer, high school football playoffs, extreme sports, concerts and other special events.

sounds sweet.....

How can a program and community (UAB) go from shuttering the doors a couple years ago to now having a proposal like this on the table? In the meantime, we go from having a pretty interesting proposal with a lot of hope for great facilities and help for our program to now looking like it’s going to be a pretty weak solution. I know what the answer is but I would love to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth (Administration) and Harry M’s take on all of this because to me it just seems pretty damn sad!

This wouldn't be a UAB owned building. This would be a joint venture by the county, city and university.

We're trying to finance this thing all by ourselves with barriers laid by the Cox bill.

Very different circumstances.

Now, we could approach one of the local cities and pitch them a joint venture, but we would likely lose the on campus stadium.

That would never fly. Are there other public Universities in Birmingham?

Don't think so. Samford and Birmingham Southern are both private.

Ya, we couldn't show favoritism like that with CNU, Hampton, and NSU in close proximity. And any other I'm missing.

Hampton is private. But yeah, wont happen with NSU around. And even if that wasnt a concern, I believe ODU wants to control the stadium. Otherwise, the original Ballard plan would have to have been seriously considered.

RE: Just want to add a little more unrest
If we simply add two sets of bleachers where the clamshells are now with a cheap press box on top and new bathrooms, we will probably end up with the worst (or maybe next to worst ahead of FIU) stadium in CUSA east. Bottom line is absolutely critical to have comparable facilities to our peers. If we don't, we won't be able to recruit competitively and put a winning program on the field. A losing team won't be embraced in Hampton Roads very long by any folks other than the die hards and a half full 20,000 seat place would be a disaster. I'm more and more concerned our new stadium will be one of the worst in CUSA the day it opens. ODU has to find a way to get a top quality stadium built in phase one. I truly believe the future success (and financial stability) of the program depends on investment in this stadium.
