Gonzaga doesn't have FB so I wouldn't consider them in a G5 grouping.

They have it easier than say Dayton and others who play non-scholarship football. CC's former school, Drake, was non-scholarship football.

Fair categorization. The 300k spent on golf would help basketball tremendously.

Agree....EMU, like all G5 schools struggle financially to field athletic teams, and here we are having more athletic programs than all of our peer MAC schools. I don't understand this rationalization.

Luckey,

You missed about a dozen or two posts:

1). Title IX plays a big part forcing us to keep sports we might otherwise want to drop. We have a university with many more female, than male, students.

2). Many of our Olympic sports are our most successful sports and some have been supported directly financially by donor money. Years ago a donor left big bucks for wrestling. Many have noted T&F, swimming and diving, etc. are untouchable sports at EMU.

3). One sport we are struggling, baseball, is a sport we dropped a good bit of money in recent years on the stadium, field turf, etc. A school doesn't invest millions of donors funds and then drop the sport. Baseball does drain a fair number of scholarships and is expensive as a travel sport.

4). I doubt we'd get rid of golf because we have the golf course. I don't know much about golf.

5). Remember many sports use partial scholarships and they do not count for much scholarship money. FB and MBB and WBB are full scholarship sports (no partial scholarships).
EMU golf doesn't use EagleCrest as it is too short for NCAA play. Title IX neutral, small, non-spectator, not an EMU or MAC strength. There is no compelling reaaon to keep it.

Okay. I admit to knowing nothing about golf, esp. NCAA golf.

I'm surprised the MAC schools keep it.

The more sports the merrier. Always believed more life lessons and true value gained from athletic competition, than in most classrooms. Especially in this day and age of ever expanding, useless college degrees, accompanied by debt.

Press release for Reeves hiring says he's a TE coach, doesn't mention "Passing Game Coordinator."

Looks like Nunez will just be in charge of Special Teams.

"He will have so much to contribute as our tight ends coach and in recruiting"

Looks like we may have also finally realized the importance of recruiting. Nunez seems to have been a good addition in that regard, and hopefully Reeves will be as well.

Ben Needham will be the DL coach. He was the DC coach as KSU and their D was their strength.

Is this the clue... It seems that Ben was at Drake while CC was the HC of Drake.

"Needham came to Ohio State following two seasons as the defensive line coach at Drake University. From 2008-2009, he coached two all-conference performers as the Bulldogs ranked among the FCS Top 15 in total defense, rushing defense and scoring defense both seasons."

Needham was on campus last week as a 'candidate', working out with the DL guys. Well rounded experience, looks like a good addition.

Yep. We lost a very good, very very experienced DL coach and picked up a fmr. DC as his replacement.

The good thing, as I mentioned, is that he worked for CC before so CC isn't going out on a limb with this hire.

The coaching network. It's all about making connections.

So who is going to dig into the ad's background and see what basketball coaches he might know?

Maybe brilliant minds think alike. I'm just sick of watching mediocre-at-best basketball. Want to see our school get to the top for a change. I'm not the only one here that remembers the glory years of the 90s. We need to get back there. It's been 20 years. Time for change.
