I'm old and don't matter anymore....

I've always been a minimalist....

small house, few clothes, currently drive a 95 gmc/350 V8/5.7L gas guzzler, and a dog.....

now when it comes to purchasing equipment or liquor, that's another animal....always Stihl, Scag, Milwaukee, Snap-on, Makers, Glenlivet, etc.....

oh yeah, I'm a weed snob too...hell, I didn't do swag back in the college days 03-wink

Any sunglasses I buy are eventually going to be sat on and crushed. It has been about 20 years since I've dropped more than about $10 on a pair. I did find a decent pair of Ray Bans on a city sidewalk a couple years ago and tried my damndest to take care of them, but they too got crushed.

RE: OT: Consumer Research
I buy what I want.

It's how I am with cars and that trickles down into all of my purchases.

If you buy what you like you will deal with some issues but if you buy something just for how well you think it will hold up you will end up hating it when something goes wrong because now you have little to nothing to like about it.

I also tend to believe there is little difference in quality among most major brands of anything.

That's me. I see it, I want it, I buy it. Except for guns, I tend to do a little research and look for the best prices for the best product I can find when it comes to guns.

Yep, stupid me bought a pair of 150 sunglasses back in the day and lost them about two weeks later. Haven't paid more than $5-$10 for sunglasses since. Same thing now with reading glasses. Have one nice pair (insurance) and my other reading glasses all came from the dollar store.

The WalMart version of these is awesome as well.

I fill mine as I leave work on Friday (small pellets of ice)... have a rum and coke that night... put it in refer (not freezer) and repeat on Sat (without the rum usually) and I'm still pouring over ice on Sunday

The Ozark Trail (Walmart version) is awesome.

A neat trick one of the guys at the hunt club taught us with those style cups is to pre-chill them. He won a Yeti 64oz just that he uses as a growler. When he first started with it the thing wouldn't let the beer chill right so he mentioned it to the guy at the growler station. The guy said he had the exact same jug and had the same problem but someone told him that when he knew he was going to go fill it to fill it full of ice water and put it in the fridge the day before. He started doing that an said since then the beer is so cold it gives him ice cream headaches. LOL

I tried it on my Rtic tumbler earlier this year when I knew I was going to want a few bourbon and cokes while grilling chicken for a family function and I could tell a difference. Got a 30oz Ozark Trail cup for Christmas I can't wait to try out.

Most of you may be aware of this by now but at some point between age 35 and 45 the female members of the species become in dire risk of dehydration. This phenomenon which is the only thing keeping Sonic Drive Inns solvent is particularly hard to deal with.

So one Christmas I bought my wife a Yeti tumbler and had it engraved with her name and the A-State logo. What I didn't know was she had bought me one the next size smaller had it engraved with my name and the A-State logo for my morning coffee.

I gave up using it for coffee because it was still too hot to drink by the time I got to work thus depriving me of the only thing keeping me from being Michael Douglas in Falling Down on my commute. I pack with ice and water from the ice machine at work.

RE: OT: Consumer Research
Hey Ark St. put ice in your coffee when you pour it into your cup. I drop 5 ice cubes into mine because it gets and stay pretty hot and I don't have any patience when I want my coffee.

I notice you guys talking about vehicles. I bought my first new truck in 1976 and I kept it for 15 years. I then bought a 1991 Toyota Celica. I kept that for one year as I realized I needed/wanted a truck instead. I bought a 1992 Chevy PU and kept that for 17 years. I then bought a 2009 Toyota Tundra that I kept for 7 years. I traded that one because my wife complained that it was too big and cumbersome, it had 16k miles on the odometer so after that I got a 2016 Chevy Colorado which is perfect. I figure since most of my vehicles stay with me for 15 or more years I get my money back. I guess this will be my last truck until I die at 83 which is my goal. That truck should be 15 years old by then. The way I'm driving this truck it'll be lucky to have 40k miles on the odometer. Anyone want to buy an old truck barely driven in 2031? It should be a classic by then. LOL

I like cars too much to keep them long.

I’ve had 4 since 2013.

My wife is one that is fine with sticking with one but I can’t do it. I always want another.

I love OLD trucks but my wife complains that I complain too much when they need work and I can't find a decent mechanic. My kind of old truck would be one where it's been restored from the frame up and it's got to have air conditioning. Otherwise, everything else can be original.

I'm going to the Imperial Hotel and to the Classic car showroom there and BUY ONE.

Wait, let me get permission from my wife. LOL

I always had the dream if I hit the lottery of restoring my great grandfathers 1970 custom delux pick up, a 69 Chevelle convertible, and an old CJ7 Jeep. Those would be my toys. Alas I'm still working.

Have you considered just jumping in and trying to do it all yourself?

I would if I had the expertise but honestly I don't. I know a little auto maintenance out of desperation but not to fully restore a truck.

amen brother.....the 90 chevy models is where it's at.....I owned a '90 and finally beat the doors off at 245k miles......even though the current version is a gmc (same dayum thing), I'm currently at 110k.....I'll drive that sumbiatch till those doors fall off too....

I'll go find another in that model era if I outlive this one....that's easily debatable at this point in my life 03-wink

it's not that big of a deal to learn the basics if your looking to develop a new 'hobby'.....and replacement parts are easy to come by.....this is where the internet can be your best friend in aid....

I'm lucky enough to have a certified gmc mechanic in my back pocket.....sometimes he's more valuable that the pair of docs in my poc's when I get in a bind....

bartering is a nifty way to give the subsidizing version of uncle sam da finga.....

I always say I’m going to keep a car forever but I never do.

I’ve been driving since 2004 and I’ve had 9.

I love cars, except Japanese ones which I don’t like and probably will never own.

Stinky, when it comes to learning the basics of a new hobby and spending money on said hobby my wife is like the Democratic party, an obstructionist.

I might try to impeach her.
