ODU comes in at #68 and a win against WKU would help that. Normally I dont pay any attention to what Jay Bilas says but any publicity is better than no publicity.

I haven't looked at it yet. But is his top 68 teams or is it a 68 team field? The Difference is the 30+ AQ. If he doesn't have someone from the MEAC (and all the other conferences) with their AQs then we and a bunch of other ahead of us are out......

It's not a projected field. It's his 68 best teams in D1.

No its not his tourney field but just the best 68 teams. He has ODU, WKU and MTSU from C-USA meaning that any of those teams could win the conference and make it to the NCAA tournament.

Well, that puts us further out of the Field when all of the MEACs and Southlands send their AQs up.

(Truth be told, the MEAC has won more games in the NCAAs than us in the past 7 years)

RE: Bilas has ODU in the Top 68.....barely
Top 68 at the very least would mean that if they were rated that high at the end of the season, they'd stand a reasonable chance at making the NIT. A team with an RPI in the 60s rarely makes the field (and I'm guessing never if you're not in a power conference), but stands a very good chance at the NIT at least.

For context, last year's NIT at-large teams had RPIs from 52 (Georgia) to 106 (Georgia Tech, the only triple-digit at-large selection). The lowest RPI for a non-major team was, depending on how you define "power", Richmond (80), Fresno State (76) or Valparaiso (71). The best RPI for a team that didn't get an NCAA or NIT bid was UNC Asheville (73) in the CIT. And only three eligible teams in the top 100 didn't get an NCAA/NIT bid. So a top 100 RPI should result in an NIT bid, and a top 70 RPI is an almost guarantee.

This blog has ODU as an 8-seed in the NIT, playing Utah in the first round and the Temple-South Carolina winner in the second. But as Petey already pointed out, given that the 8s and 7s are almost always automatic bids, so ODU is effectively on the outside looking in. Other teams of interest: Middle Tennessee is the only other ODU foe in (3), while VCU, William & Mary, Towson, and UAB are on the others-considered list. WKU appears to be their pick to rep CUSA in the NCAAs.

We will know a lot more after this week. If we manage to hold serve, we will be in great shape. But you have to win the home games in a conference race. If we lose this week, we are likely playing for a 3 or 4 seed.

Sarcasm alert.

So it is his top 68 teams.

With the normal bias from Bilas there are likely 60 teams from the P5 in his top 68. That puts us at #8 non P5. Pretty good!

If CUSA were included in the midmajor top 25, ODU would probably be top 15. CUSA would likely have 3 teams in it. I understand why we don’t want to be included but it is sort of silly when conferences ranked higher than CUSA are in the MM 25

The way I counted it, there was only one A10 team on the list and none from the CAA. How is that possible when they are so superior to CUSA?

Not really that far off the actual count!

If the bottom 4 basketball schools were dropped, the conference ratings would skyrocket. The issue isnt the top

Two: Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure. The A10 in fairness is usually further ahead than CUSA, but this isn't their best season with Dayton and VCU down and nobody really emerging as a consistent top program (and Rhody/Bona aren't exactly paragons of stability themselves).

Looks like W&M may well be the top CAA team this year, and they had to pull a shot out of their anal cavity to beat us on their home floor. We may well be the 4th best team in CUSA. Maybe better. We'll find out for sure this weekend.

The bottom teams in CUSA don't care about basketball. It is what it is, but we can overcome that.

Dont think the Tribe are beat CAA team but a strong argument could be made that there are at least 4 teams in the CUSA better than the best CAA team.

Not sure that applies this year. UTEP, Rice and Charlotte all invest in the sport.

True (though not sure about Rice. How much do they invest?). I was thinking more along the lines of the FUs etc.

Towson is the best team in the CAA.

I still think CoC with towson close behind (Towson recently won at home).
