St John's
So with last nights loss, St John's is 0-5 in the conference. Chris Mullin now in his 3rd year is 8-33 in Big East games. It seems like he has recruited pretty well but game coaching? He's gotten all of 2 what are now tier 1 wins in his 3 years- Butler and @ Providence last year.

You just wonder how much longer he's not necessarily going to be welcome, but moreso how much longer he's going to be interested in going thru this grind.

Lovett situation is strange IMO.

yeah. Something is really weird there. I thought the guy on the other board was a bit too reactionary with St John's- but something isn't adding up there at all. And the season could really go south quickly- looking at KP- they aren't favored in a single game the rest of the way.

RE: St John's
I liked the Mullin hire at the time (and still do) but I never thought he'd be a long-term coach there. I foresaw him getting bored or even frustrated with the long-term rebuild and look to move on after 3-4 years. I don't think he gets fired after this year, but I could see him stepping down after next year.

The timing is unfortunate because Dan Hurley would be a stud at St. Johns (and is likely to be hired elsewhere by the time the next cycle comes around). With Tom Crean also available (but probably looking to find a program this spring), it's tough to continue to go through a rebuild when there are other proven coaches available.

I really didn't like it because I didn't think coaching wise he'd be that great and it's really fleshed out. I thought he had a pretty low ceiling.

RE: St John's
Zags just posted that Lovett's announced he's done for the year (and that makes me think he's done at St John's for good). That's a shame, they have some good talent on that team and could have been interesting if healthy.

yeah from what I've seen looks like he was cleared to play by the medical staff, but didn't want to play. Makes me think he's more worried about going pro.

Took a season where it was 50/50 on them making the tourney and took it to 1/99 now.
