Throwback: Brian Gregory and the finished rebuild of the basketball program
I either didn't realize or totally forgot he(Brian Gregory) was coaching USF. I don't know if you all remember, but the last time we played a Brian Gregory lead team, it was when he was still in Dayton in 2010.
This was the year when we announced to the world we were a force again, and the first time we had been back to the NCAA tournament since Huggins.

https://www.downthedrive.com/2010/11/29/...etroactive

We not only doubled the team who beat us in the NIT the year prior, we pretty much killed Brian Gregory's career at Dayton.
I wish I could find more highlights of just the game, but there was the following

EDIT*
Sorry, I initially put up the wrong article/link.

Let's hope this can be the start of another significant run.
(Though I don't believe USF can afford to cann him)

RE: Throwback: Brian Gregory and the finished rebuild of the basketball program
After a rise in the Dayton program, there was a fall at Georgia Tech with him at the helm: 76-86 (.469) with zero NCAAT appearances and zero ACC accolades in 5 seasons. He does have that one NIT Championship at Dayton though. 03-cloud9

I'm sure USF is happy to have him to kick start their program. 03-yawn

Sounds like it's going to be a painful game for Brian Gregory.

Watching the video posted by Recluse1 made me remember how big of a man Yancey Gates was. I mean, that dude could've played on the interior DEE line...

I miss those throwback Adidas uniforms. One of my favorites over the years.

I always found it interesting with both him and Deberry, how someone could be so large and graceful.
His jumper was pretty and he could make moves like a guard. You'd think he'd move around like a Mack truck, but it was like watching a ballerina in a grizzly's body.

People complained a lot, but that fade away was part of what made him so successful.
He's still a lot of fun to watch

I still see Yancey a few times a year in the offseason at Krogers or the gas station, etc....Think he lives in the Anderson/Mt. Washington area when he is in town. Incredibly nice guy who always has a smile for you and is still built like a brick wall.

Yancy has always reminded me of Zach Randolph. I'm not going to speculate on why Yancy never made it to the league because I think he has taken a lot of criticism over the years from UC fans -- some fair, some not. But I do believe Yancy had the natural talent to play in the NBA.

Yep, I see him running the Lunken bike trail every now and then. Monster sized human with surprising endurance.

[Reporter] "Coach, let's talk postseason numbers. In your previous 13 seasons you had two NCAAT appearances at Dayton and none at Georgia Tech. You did make several significant runs in the NIT. Are you most proud of your Dayton's 2010 NIT Championship as the 66th best team?"

[Snickers and chuckles]
