Sweeeet! 04-cheers

OwlJacket decided on approximately Wednesday that he wanted to go out to B'ham instead of sticking around here for GA Tech vs. Puke-Conn. So it looks like we're going too. :D Should be a good time!

I'm staying the hell away from predicting scores.

I have to provide football opinions? I though we had agreed to go to the UH-UAB game to spend another saturday without watching good football..

:chair:

You better watch it, bucko. After last week, I'm starting to think you're a one-man weauxf -- Rice got shellacked, and after you joined in on the Tulsa-SMU thread, Tulsa tanked too.

(At first I thought it was me; but then I remembered I'd popped in on an ECU/UH thread without ill effects. So it's not my fault.)

Anyway, *I* thought we were going to B'ham so you could tag along with me for UH tailgate grub.

Well, OwlJacket is away in Couch Land (though not for the reason you might think -- he's sick, poor guy) so you're stuck with my dumb*** analysis. Plus, my ride left early in the 4th so I didn't see the end (though I did see all the scoring -- it was 20-7 when we left).

Main problem IMO: we gave 'em too much time to set stuff up. When we threw passes, sometimes they took just a bit too long (giving defenders the opportunity to get in & break stuff up); they had an easy time stopping our running plays a lot of the time, too.

Asset: Briles had the confidence to go for it on a handful of 4th & not-so-much, and we actually converted some of 'em. It was great when that happened!

We had some penalties at rotten times. UAB had some worse penalties that helped us convert some 3rd downs (and even a 4th or two, IIRC). That aspect balanced out or might've even been slightly in our favor.

Kicking wasn't so hot. Our punts looked yucky, and we missed a field goal [EDIT: make that two FGs we missed].

That's about all I've got.

I read the review of the game in the Chrummical. According to it, Briles took responsibility for the bad play calling. I do not know why he has been so conservative this year. He needs to open up the offense and allow us to stretch the field more. UAB's defense has been on life support the last couple of games and all he calls is runs and short passes. :bang:

Also our special teams straight up sucks. We had lousy punting and missed 2 or 3 field goals. We have to get better on this next year.

Yes. Your kicker is just godawful. So is UAB's. It sucks.

Your senior laden team will be gone and the Coogs will definitely not overlook you next year. Next year the Coogs will pluck the Owl's feathers!!!

If you're already in the cellar, it's hard to overlook anything.

I know Rice is happy having someone join them in the cellar for a change instead of just locking them in one.

Are y'all skipping straight to the next-year Bucket smack already? Don't tell me you're forgetting a little something called basketball season!

Well, menfolks' basketball anyway. As far as the wimmins go, all the smack is on the Coogs' side (i.e. "your girls're skeered of our girls").
