(01-12-2018 10:50 AM)DukesOnARoll Wrote:  Why do you guys think JMU won't have a chance against NC State? The elite of the FCS can compete all but the elite of FBS. I wouldn't put NC State into that category. They may be ranked, but they are far from elite. Any game can turn into a route if one team gets momentum, but I would expect a close game and wouldn't be surprised to see JMU win.

1) Breaking in a new starting QB.
2) We kind of have to believe OL, WR and to a lesser extent RB play will improve when we see it.
3) A decent amount of defensive turnover, especially DL and S.
4) NC State is not ECU. They're good enough to likely get a preseason ranking or be right on the outside.

I just don't think from what we saw out of our offense in 2017, that we're going to be able to keep up with their scoring enough to win. Our defense is only going to stop so much.

I am more confident though with MH still our coach. It would be a nearly guaranteed loss without him.

A little off topic but not worthy of a thread of its own so I'll put it here...

...thank Buddha UNCheat is reworking their seating at Kenan Stadium. For those who have been there, you know first hand that your knees are in your throat when trying to sit down. And that is for a 5'2" person. :>)

Maybe next time the Dukes visit The Land of Systemic Fraud, we will have less folks needing physical therapy from having to be there for 3+ hours...

edit note: another off topic, but sad to see legendary voice of college football (and other sports as well), Keith Jackson, died last night...may he RIP

Wow, though it was much needed, a drop from 63k to 51k is huge.

I've mentioned before that new stadium construction of a 40k stadium has about the same footprint as those old 1920s era 75k stadiums. They really crammed them in back then. ADA and modern fire codes dictate a comparatively much larger area.

I went to a game there last year and sat in the corner where the chair backs were already done. It's a big improvement.

But I can't understand why they are cutting 12K seats out to go down to 51K when they averaged 50K per game during a 3-9 season with let's face it a ****** home schedule besides Notre Dame game.

If you had sat in the old chairbacks you would understand. It's currently built for midgets.

Yep, I'm only 5'8" and I had a hard time getting to my seats so hopefully this is a big improvement. Keenan stadium is in a pretty setting and the aesthetics are top notch but I don't know what engineer measured the distance between the seating rows. I remember having to pee and thinking "I'll just hold it."

UNCheat also is notorious for overstating attendance at their games. For years, not sure about last year, they would always give a round number for each game’s attendance—51000 or 48000, never 50789 or 44982.

I’m not shocked at Richardson declaring but I am a little shocked at Hines doing it. Both are big losses for the Pack, no doubt.

By my count NC State had 7 players drafted and a few more signed to rookie camps. They’ll be breaking in a lot of new players at key positions.

Their entire front 4 defensively were drafted in the first 4 rounds I believe.

They still have a ton of talent over there. The DE Darian Roseboro is a future NFLer. While he's obviously not Chubb he's a damn good player. They have 7-8 guys that were all solid to good recruits that will rotate this year. Their LB are better this year too. Louis Acceus seemed like he had 50 tackles in their spring game.

Their offense is loaded. Kelvin Harmon is probably a top 50 draft pick and they are 5-6 deep at receiver.

I'm looking forward to seeing how we match up against them.

Kind of makes you wonder why their defense wasn’t any Better. They gave up 25 ppg with 4 NFL D-linemen 04-jawdrop

RE: JMU at NC State
Saw this blurb today talking about NC State's coach:

"The NC State football coach just broke a program record by having seven players drafted in the 2018 NFL Draft, tying him with Ohio State -- and behind only Alabama -- for most players taken this year. The truly impressive parts of that? It was Doeren's first real recruiting class, and it featured only two guys who were given higher than a three-star rating (Kentavius Street, Nyheim Hines) according to the 247 Sports composite score. What that shows is Doeren's building a program in Raleigh -- the coaching staff and strength coaches bring in guys and develop them into potential high-level pros."

Agreed. And, I don't mean to imply their cupboard is bare. They have new leadership in co-coordinators on the D side of the ball. Will be interesting to see if they have any learning curves early on when live game action gets going for real.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't think I watched them play at all last season but when your entire DL gets drafted you'd think the record would be a lot better.

If we give up 70 pts and lose, then we move The Weapon to defense moving forward (and fire both Trott and Houston after the game). Move The Weapon to Head Coach.

Just sayin'...

:>)

Hoping no blowout.

Their complete defensive line got drafted, so that won’t hurt.

Was hoping o-line would be a strength to start season. After spring scrimmage, not sure that is the case.

Don't read anything into what happens in a spring game/scrimmage. Nothing. Zilch. Nada.

For JMU, it has decided the starting QB. Brian Schor got to be the QB based on that spring.
