It will never happen, but wouldn't it be great if both UC and Wichita State won out prior to their first meeting. Wichita would be at least top 4 and UC at least top 8 in that scenario.

I'm happy with 14th. We only have two 3-loss teams ahead of us and a few 1-loss and 2-loss teams behind us. I'd love to see UCF or SMU go on a run and get themselves into the picture.

Funny every time I listen to sports talk I hear about how Xavier is a national title contender and we've got a chance to be good. Computers already say we're better than them and after Xavier gets beat by Villanova we'll be ranked higher as well. But I'm sure that won't change the local medias narrative. I'm listening to Cincy360 right now and James Rapien who is a UC grad talks about XUs loss before our win. Don't get it; we know UC has a significantly larger following than X.

FHOF coach Huggy Bear has PressVirginia up to No. 2

What could have been.

What was, until he screwed up. Unbelievable that some haven't moved on.

If we hadn't blown the Florida game, we would be top ten right now. The narrative I am hearing from national analysts is that we haven't beaten anybody yet. We have a lot of nice top 100 wins and a couple of top 50 wins with SMU and UCLA, but we aren't going to get any respect until/unless we beat Wichita State. It sucks, but that's what happens when you have a weak schedule and blow your two big chances to make noise early in the season.

Good to see that John Feinstein has moved us up the ranks (early in the season he had us unranked-- had Harvard rated). Also see that Dickie V. still continues to rate us low (he is an ACC/BE humper).

It's probably true, but Florida isn't THAT good even with a neutral court win against UC, so I think that national narrative would still hold had UC won that game. As long as UC keeps winning, they'll climb up the rankings. Our tournament seed might be 1 spot lower than our final ranking would dictate, but that's not catastrophic.

There is a lot of parity this year, so nearly every team with a top 6 seed in the tournament should have a shot at the Final Four. I think I would actually prefer being a 6 seed to a 4 or a 5. If you're a 4 or a 5 seed, it means you're probably going to play a really dangerous mid-major in round 1 and might run into a team like Villanova in the Sweet 16, who is one of the few teams that really scares me this year. I'll take my chances against a bubble team and the 2 and 3 seeds. Of course, the most important thing in all of this is individual match-ups.

Was it last week where I said UC is a top 15 team and someone pointed out that none of the pollsters seem to think so? That changed quickly. AP/Coaches poll are always so reactionary and volatile. It was inevitably UC would find their way back in the top 15 and it's highly likely they'll slip out at some point as well. Pollsters like to react to every little thing that happens and honestly they probably way overreact on a week to week basis. Kenpom, Sagarin, BPI all have been pretty consistent that UC is a top 10-15 team. I'll ride with those predictive measures over the reactionary pollsters who watch such a small percent of the games anyways.

We probably have 5 hard games left until the tournament (vs. UCF who will be a very different team than we see next week with a healthy BJ Taylor, @SMU, and the three inevitable WSU games). As long as we don't drop any craptasms in a local YMCA in the Southeast and beat who we should beat, at worst we *should* be 30-5 and we *should* be Top 10 in the human polls by the time March Madness begins.

I'd add 2 games with Houston to that list. They are going to be right on the bubble this year. I agree on UCF. I think they are an NCAA tournament caliber team that was unlucky early to be missing their best offensive player (which for an already offensively challenged team prevented them from getting a couple more key wins). Additionally, don't sleep on the games at Tulane and at Uconn. Uconn has been abysmal at times, but there are days where there talent carries them. They run no offense but sometimes they make plays anyways. Tulane is well coached, much better and that is another true road game before the trip to Wichita.

Considering the last two times we've been down there I've seen more Red and Black and gray concrete than people wearing green and blue...I don't think I'll ever consider Tulane a tough road game.

Houston AT Houston could be tough, but I just haven't seen enough out of them to think they can come up here and be the team to break the streak.

I mean I think we'll beat all those teams, but all those games could be real tests. I just don't know that I'd limit "hard games" to 5 going forward.
