If OU brings BOTH rivals to a new conference
Which chain reaction is more likely:

A) SEC

1) All 3 (OU, OSU, UT) to SEC
2) KU (and perhaps ISU and KSU) to B1G
3) Remaining BIG XII merge with AAC-W

B) PAC-XII

1) All 3 to PAC 12
2) PAC 12 adds a MWC team (or BYU), becoming PAC 16
3) WVU to ACC
4) ISU to B1G
5) Remaining BIG XII merge with MWC

RE: If OU brings BOTH rivals to a new conference
The B1G only adds Iowa State if they are adding an Oklahoma or Texas, IMO. I think a KU/ISU combo doesn't move the needle enough.

If Texas/Oklahoma/OK State leave, I would think the Big 12 (7) just back fills with Houston, UCF and USF. If they want 12, they can also grab Memphis and Cincinnati.

Who would be the SEC’s #18?

Maybe they'll vote Vanderbilt off the island. 03-wink

Either that or let the Big Ten have Missouri.

My guess would be they'd take a run at NC State or Virginia Tech. If those overtures were rebuffed, then I think they'd go to TCU, Kansas State or West Virginia.

If they kept the 18th expansion school in the East, they'd be able to have a better East/West set-up:

East:
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
*NC State/Virginia Tech/West Virginia

West
Arkansas
LSU
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Missouri
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas A&M

RE: If OU brings BOTH rivals to a new conference
I'm going to say that the SEC is more likely. It it would require a fundamental shift in how we thought in how we conceptualize conferences as well as a twist in the interpretation of how the rules that govern post-season play.

Let's say the SEC adds the Texlahoma 4 and 2 others. You then create 4 divisions of 5. Winners of those 4 divisions play in 2 "conference championship" games. Technically it's legal because to host a title you need 10 teams and divisions who play round robin among the division. If you can work it out to then let those two "conference" winners to meet in a pre-national Playoff game that'd be great but I still think you have a solid chance at landing winners of both those games in the playoff if you cant

I still don't think the PAC is realistic, if OU and friends decide to leave the XII, it will be to the SEC or B1G.

And please stop with the Iowa State to the B1G talk. The only way the B1G will expand is if a school brings value to the table, like an OU or KU. Iowa State brings nothing.

Badger: I unfortunately concede the SU's will be screwed by realignment. Their realistic landing spots don't serve the student-athletes very well IMHO.

Can we please stop to WVU to ACC also? They have been turned down 7 times by ACC, and will NEVER get in.

Spenser: which geographically reasonable conference would accept them? As I said about the SU's, I want ALL student-athletes served by conference alignment.

RE: If OU brings BOTH rivals to a new conference
Well the most likely 4th should OU and OSU head to the SEC would be Texas Tech, because the Longhorns would likely insist. Ideally it would be Kansas or perhaps W.V.U..

A move to 6 could get complicated unless Kansas could separate from Kansas State.

Perhaps the only way the move could be just Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State would be if Missouri served notice and left with Kansas to the Big 10.

But note this, the SEC has never asked for a school to leave and has never voted a school out and refuses to even consider it. Sewanee bowed out years ago and Tulane and Georgia Tech both left for the allure of "independent profits" back in the mid 60's. As you can tell it sure worked out well for both of them, heh, heh!

So a school can withdraw, but that means one would have to want to do so. I seriously doubt that Missouri wants to leave but that would be the only way the SEC could take those 3 and remain at 16 members.

But my money would be on Texa-homa because the taking of the other state school in each case would probably be the biggest factor in landing OU and UT. Couple that with a better fit for their other sports, closer proximity, especially within the division, and large travel crowds and an average of 131 million per school revenue in the SEC as compared to 116 million in the Big 10 and 108 million in the Big 12 and it would probably make the offer the best they could expect. Add to it the reunion for Texas with Arkansas & A&M and games with L.S.U. (very old rivals but a closer drive) and it's a pretty good deal.

Arkansas, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech makes for about as good a division of schools to play that Texas could possibly find outside of the old SWC.

It also works out very nicely for the SEC East:
Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

At 20 you add Kansas to the West and West Virginia to the East and split into 4 pods of 5. You rotate a pod every year so that you play your 4 divisional games and the 5 from the other pod which for that year forms your division.

Every three years you've played everyone and you have 10 conference games: The 9 that form your division that year, and 1 permanent rival.

JR: other than splitting up the Egg Bowl, that's a great alignment.

I feel like texas wouldn't want to join a conference that already has texas A&M. They look down on them and that move would hurt their massive ego

Well Ole Miss's biggest rival outside of State is L.S.U. and they've had several series with Texas over the years.

Miss State is 90 miles from Tuscaloosa and that's a big game too.

The permanent rival covers the Egg Bowl.

Not playing them and having not played well has kept Texas from filling their stadium, and it was the ticket that their fans donated to be able to purchase. It's just good business in spite of the egos for the two to play again.

SEC should take ECU for the east.

The trouble with the options here is that the one with the more plausible opening move (B) has very implausible events in the chain reaction. ISU (let alone KSU) to the Big Ten is perhaps the most implausible. Also, the Pac will not add BYU, and no current MWC schools move the needle.

If there is a OU/OSU/UT move to the Pac, TT is very likely to be along for the ride. There is no guarantee of a power conference landing spot for any other Big 12 schools though. The Big Ten might pick up Kansas, they might not. The SEC or ACC might pick up WV, but probably not. So if there is no salvation, the remnant Big 12 picks up 4 schools from the AAC and you get the "Tweener 10":

East: Cincinnati, UCF, UConn, USF, WV
West: Baylor, ISU, Kansas, KSU, TCU

Nerdinger: I'm inclined to agree with your scenario. But 1 question: is WVU to the B1G or AAC plausible?
