The Golden Knights did not stub their toe ala USM in 2011....

This MIGHT give more credence for an 8 team playoff (with top program from AAC, SUNWACUSA and MW gettin' a sole invite)....although I would just like a team that sniffs the Top 25 at this point!

If they go to a 8 team it'll only benefit those already there.

Ohio State
Wisconsin
Auburn
USC

So? If you went to a 100 team playoff the other 27 schools would beeoitch....it's a part of life.

IF basketball had only 4 teams qualify for a Natl Championship each year, it would be North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky and someone else every year--BUT IT DOESN'T. IF baseball had only 4 spots, it would be Miami, Texas, LSU and someone else---BUT IT DOESN'T. IF Tiddly winks had only 4 teams each year, it would be Hofstra, Slippery Rock, Ithaca College and someone else each year---BUT IT DOESN'T.

Why should football be any different than other NCAA sports? Go to, say, 8 or 12 teams and allow a G5 team in if it meets certain pre-ordained qualifications.

The thing about the CFP is that it's not an NCAA championship. The NCAA doesn't sponsor the playoffs and has no role in the selection committee.

It's a side deal between ESPN and the schools that signed on--all P5 and G5 schools. It's an invitational, not a NCAA championship playoff like the basketball tourney.

If UCF wants to hang a national championship banner, more power to them. They will also get a few no. 1 votes in the final AP poll. I think this might ead to some sort of expansion in the playoffs, or at least more media cynicism about the current CFP.

By the way...No one thinks UCF is better than Bama or Georgia, but no one thinks the no. 62 seed is better than Kansas in basketball, but they get THAT chance.

IF you wanna watch Bama and "Clempson" every year, so be it. But a UCF/Clemson match up as a first round game woulda been intriguing and enjoyable to hear your ESPN friends spending the whole game telling us UCF does not belong.

I never agreed, however, that UCF should hang anything, because they are not anyone's "Mythical" champs in my book....but they did deserve a fighting chance like any undefeated team gets in any other NCAA event!
