Media idea: AAC, MWC, CUSA, BYU on NBC Sports
Opinions on if the following lineup of schools could get ratings for NBC-SN when their soon to be expired media contracts are available: AAC, MWC, CUSA and BYU.
40 schools from Connecticut to Hawaii for the country to follow throughout the year on NBC-SN.
Recognizable Football names like UCF, Houston, Boise, San Diego St and BYU.
Recognizable Basketball names like Uconn, Cincinnati, Wichita St and UNLV.
Throw a few games on NBC to sweeten the pot. People are tired of espn...could this lineup offer a decent alternative for college football, basketball and baseball viewers?
I’d say it would be a nice compliment to the Olympics and Notre Dame for NBC.

Why C-USA but not the Sun Belt?

People of tired of ESPN? You mean non-sports watchers that are tired of paying for it?

Putting UCF vs BYU on NBC, won't equal the ratings of Oklahoma St vs Iowa St on ABC.

Those leagues aren't with NBC because NBC knows it won't deliver the ratings it wants. Notre Dame fans aren't sticking around after/before the game to see MWC and CUSA action.

Boise State And BYU may still be as ESPN's property. Boise State might go Independent in football because they make more money with a single contract that they can;t get with a MWC contract with NBC sports.

Ive said for a while that there is money to be made in becoming the network of record for G5 football on Saturdays. Do it right.

Start with a saturday "Game Day" type show from a college campus location. Do a daily show recapping news from the G5. Treat the G5 as seriously as ESPN treats the P5.

To me its like what Fox News did. They looked at the TV News landscape and noticed that conservatives were largely ignored. In fact, when conservatives were not ignored on national news, it was because they were being laughed at. Fox realized that conservatives made up around half the audience and chose to cater their news to that ignored group. Fox News is now the top cable news network.

Fox, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU, and CBS are all blanketing the P5 with coverage. Go where they arent. Engage the ignored G5 audience. That audience is probably close to a third of the college football audience and they are completely ignored (or lauged at when not being ignored).

Go wall to wall with G5 coverage on NBC-Sports on Saturdays. Use a G5 game to lead into or follow the Notre Dame game on NBC Broadcast. The G5 is somewhere between 25-35% of the total college football audience...thats a large college educated affluent audience just begging to find a TV home. That group buys detergent and Toyota's too. Truth be told--CBS-Sports is in the best position to execute this strategy. They already have the rights to games in the AAC, MW, MAC, and CUSA. They just need to buy some Sunbelt games and to get serious about doing a Saturday road show.

Why C-USA but not the Sun Belt?

Because CUSA, AAC, MWC, BYU media contracts are almost up. Sun Belt still has several years to go with their current ESPN contract no? The MAC is locked up with ESPN playing Wednesday games for another decade, so they are out.

Disagree. I think BYU vs UCF on NBC would do better than Iowa St vs Oklahoma St. This is coming from someone who's a native Iowan and lived in Oklahoma for 2 years and has been to many college games in both Ames and Stillwater.

Premier is over by around noon (due to its European time zone). NASCAR time trials for the Sunday race are a HUGE ratings loser. I know I checked NBC (Broadcast) one Saturday during the season just to see what they were showing. It was an auto auction. When I checked the listings--the auto auction was 3 hours long. NBC is getting creamed on Saturdays. G5 football would be a huge boost to the Saturday NBC-Sports and NBC lineups. Other than Notre Dame football--they essentially have nothing.
