The problem is that NBC has never shown one bit of interest in any other non p5 conference other the AAC and that was when the AAC was a bigger risk than all the of the g5s combined. I could easily see NBC brokering a deal to pay the AAC enough to add maybe Byu and either Boise or Sdsu. I think the rest of the g4 would be considered not worth much at that point

Could be right about NBC having no interest in anyone else but I do remember watching some TCU MWC conference games on NBC-SN (it had a different name then) as well as watching some CUSA games on NBC-SN.

It was called Versus back then until NBC bought them. The MWC had a contract with them and CBS Sports which bought CSTV, the startup network the MWC ditched ESPN for. Versus showed lots of rodeo and MMA. But looking back, the MWC did not have a bad tv exposure compared to what they have now. They were on CBS Sports, Versus and The Mtn.

As far as NBC Sports, they’re really not relevant on Saturday afternoon/nights. How many figure skating and Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan documentaries reruns can they air?

I used to love versus because they had a weekly boxing show. Sean O Grady Friday night fights sort of thing. Lot of b fight cards...which are awesome to watch.

Ive said for a while that there is money to be made in becoming the network of record for G5 football on Saturdays. Do it right.

Start with a saturday "Game Day" type show from a college campus location. Do a daily show recapping news from the G5. Treat the G5 as seriously as ESPN treats the P5.

To me its like what Fox News did. They looked at the TV News landscape and noticed that conservatives were largely ignored. In fact, when conservatives were not ignored on national news, it was because they were being laughed at. Fox realized that conservatives made up around half the audience and chose to cater their news to that ignored group. Fox News is now the top cable news network.

Fox, ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU, and CBS are all blanketing the P5 with coverage. Go where they arent. Engage the ignored G5 audience. That audience is probably close to a third of the college football audience and they are completely ignored (or lauged at when not being ignored).

Go wall to wall with G5 coverage on NBC-Sports on Saturdays. Use a G5 game to lead into or follow the Notre Dame game on NBC Broadcast. The G5 is somewhere between 25-35% of the total college football audience...thats a large college educated affluent audience just begging to find a TV home. That group buys detergent and Toyota's too. Truth be told--CBS-Sports is in the best position to execute this strategy. They already have the rights to games in the AAC, MW, MAC, and CUSA. They just need to buy some Sunbelt games and get serious about doing a Saturday road show.
