The Rockets would have lost this game last season, but they made winning plays at the end tonight. The objective of the game is to win. It doesn't matter if they win each game by one point. Just win!

Go Rockets!

Akron is not a “decent” team. I will be very surprised to hear that TK was happy with this game, other than it was a W. This wasn’t a game we should have needed clutch plays in the final minute to win.

I choose to celebrate victories. Go Rockets!

Hey, cheers to you 04-cheers Seriously. But I think the big difference between us is you’ll be happy even if you only celebrate 8 more times this season, while I will view a 9-9 MAC record as a step in the wrong direction.

I will not be happy with a 9-9 record. I just happen to think that we will finish with a better record than that. We will see what happens!

It was a fun game to watch. You can see our pattern the last couple of years. Build a 10 pt second half lead. Blow it and either hang on or lose by a couple of buckets. I hadn't looked at records, I just figured it was Akron. They are always good in the east.

didn't see this on ESPN3 - was it televised locally. Didn't even know they were playing tonight (weird to be playing on Friday night) until around 8:15. Went to ESPN3 and did not see it listed. Sounds like a conference win which is always good, but more of the same in how the team played. I just find it hard to follow UT basketball anymore. Used to go to all the games when I lived in Toledo, but unless I'm down there for something else, I'm not driving 90 minutes each way to watch a game that lasts about 90 minutes. Hard to tell much except from a macro view by watching on TV - or reading threads to a game.

I thought Adway was a bit of a bright spot tonight. Got a couple rare offensive boards and a couple blocks. Made a jumper from 15. Played within himself and ecognized that he could roam on D a little since Akron had nothing resembling a post player and their facsimile was 6’6”. Maybe this equates to damning with faint praise but he could start for Akron for sure.By the way, Brett Baier mentioned at least twice that this Dambrodt led Zips team was not typical of a Dambrodt Team. Maybe, because Dambrodt coaches Duquesne? This guy makes a lot of mistakes.

The game was on the CBS Sports Network.

Nice to win a league game. Akron is bad. Toledo isn’t awful. TK isn’t going to get fired. But they’re just not very good or very well coached. The team is kind of like the new guy, not bad, good to have around, but not going to take you anywhere you really want to go.

And I don’t see any reason to think it's going to get better in March.

Based on the first two games, I would say that the Rockets can beat anybody in the conference, and they can lose to anybody in the conference.

Which is why I’m predicting 9-9 in the MAC this season. They will pull off an upset or 2, and they will also lose to someone like Akron (we play them again on the road) or Northern.

+1 A win is a win is a win and I do agree that this is a game they might have lost last year. In fact this is a game they lost earlier this season to Wright State.

I thought a key moment in the game was about midway through the 2nd half, when Akron had all the momentum and their pressure had pretty much shut down the Rockets' offense. You could feel the Rockets were on the ropes, and for some reason Groce inexplicably calls a time out. The breather seemed to give UT a chance to get its bearings, and when play resumed, Akron's momentum was gone.

Sometimes coaches out-coach themselves.

63 percent from the foul line. Not good. But they did outscore them 14-2 there.

Out rebounded 35-29.

Akron with 4 more PiP 24-20.

Outscored 36-24 in second half.

W. Jackson's line was pretty slim for 24 minutes of playing time, but so were most other than Fletcher.

Another ho-hum game. When the game gets slowed down, they have no post-up game to go to. If they don't shoot well (2nd half 2pt 7-20 35% - 3pt 9-8 0%) they struggle.

+1

Played tough against a really good Buffalo team on the road. Should of won going away versus a not as good Akron team at home.

So much parity in the MAC everybody wins and loses games they shouldn't this year.

Agree, his line wasn't bad either.

RE: MBB: Akron at Toledo game thread
I thought the turn around in the second half was Marreon Jackson returning to the game. He is a guy that creates shot opportunities. The TV announcers made this point. This team is tough. Willie Jackson doesn't look real comfortable out there yet. I get the feeling it will be big when he does. I feel Adway is real pleasant surprise. He has not reached his ceiling yet, either.

Akron had very little competition on Toledo's offensive boards. Too many times it was 3 Akron guys to 0 Toledo guys. That has to improve. When you shoot so many outside shots, somebody has to compete under the boards. Adway, Navigato, Willie Jackson, Knapke, and Fletcher need to get more serious about this.

Alderson is a natural ball player. I love the hustle. I would like to see him in more.

This team has not peaked yet. Hats off the Sanford. He is a leader on the court. Glad he is a Rocket!
