Talley played 23 mins per game as a freshman. Caver played 15 mins per game (despite backing up Freeman). Taylor played 27 mins per game. Baker played 18 mins per game. Moseley played 20 mins per game.

So you tell us then. When did Jones get away from playing freshmen and how well is that working out for him?

Most of those guys were from Jones' 1st or 2nd year. This many seasons into his tenure, he should have a much deeper lineup (depth) than he does. If Caver was a freshman on today's team playing behind his current self then he would probably be playing 15 minutes in reserve again.

I doubt that either Godwin or Hueitt are any less players as freshmen than Baker or Talley were. Taylor played out of necessity since even back then Jones was searching for interior players with some size.

Baker was a defensive stopper the moment he walked on campus. That is the difference. Baker always got the other teams best backcourt player.
Baker sucked...terrible offensive player and below average defensive player...***** all you want at what I just said but I am right. Baker is the reason I think JJ is a poor judge of talent and fixates on certain players and forgets about other players.Allasane Kah sat the bench watching Baker play in front of him. Are you kidding me! Now we are playing 7 guys. Carver has the most god awful shot in D1 bball. Green is in a slump of all slumps and JJ is unwilling to play Huett or Godwin. Both better shooters than any of the starters. That's right I said any of the starters. Caver is struggling, Haynes, BJ, both shooting poorly. Branden plays well at home and disappears on the road. Porter is a stud. Best player we have. Sorry to ramble but if JJ doesn't start playing Huett and Godwin what do you think our chances are of winning 3 games in 3 nights come CUSA tournament time? President Broderick please do something because Wood isn't going to do a damn thing except get a pay check. Why not make him earn his money and take the action necessary to put ODU back on track to being a mid major powerhouse instead of a mid major middle of the pack nobody. WAKE UP!!!!!

Sorry but you are wrong about Baker's defense. Huett perhaps deserves minutes X's minutes. Godwin...nope.

Small sample.

The capstone of Baker's time at ODU (at least for me) was that one last-second play in the NIT that one year. Opponent throws a hail mary from the opposite baseline hoping to get another shot in before the clock goes, and there's Baker, just between the prospective enemy hero and the ball, with a fingertip deflection to save the game. A few moments of insane courage, right? Baker is cool forever in my book

RE: MHJ
If I looked at the box score correctly our point guard, shooting guard, and small forward combined to playe all but 5 minutes of the entire game. How can we compete against a physical team without playing any bench? I don't pretend to be a coach but I have to believe our guards could maybe shoot a higher percentage and have some more hop in their step if they got at least a couple of minutes of rest in each half. In Jones first few years we had no depth but I give Jones a pass on that with the depleted roster he was handed but now I believe there is enough depth to give our backcourt enough rest to finish a game as strong as they started. Let's hope we start to see some of that depth and get us back on track starting tonight.
