Just don't screw up that golden stroke.

Just don't screw up that golden stroke.

When Hueitt was named player of the game after Maryland Eastern Shore he said in the post game interview he had gained 17 pounds since arriving on campus. I am not sure what he started at but if that's true another 25 might be a stretch. He is definitely stronger than he was when he arrived on campus.

Remember watching him run a fast break against Charlotte and thinking "oh my, this kids got the IT" like Bazemore, pure basketball athleticism. Gonna be great fun watching him develop.

I think what everyone is frustrated about, is the fact that him or Godwin should have redshirted if they weren't going to get meaningful minutes.
There is an advantage in not redshirting in that there is more incentive to work harder to crack the lineup and be a factor down the stretch. I would think human nature might tempt someone to "coast" through the redshirt year. I do get your argument though.

He makes things happen. He is an instant energy boost whether he is scoring or not. The fact that JJ does not value that quality is maybe my biggest issue with him.

It also partly explains why he's a mediocre coach.

If you only are paying partial attention, out of the corner of your eye, he often appears to be out of position and out of control. But if you watch him closely, he is mostly always where he needs to be -- or at least he'll get in position in time to make a play. MHJ's engine simply runs at a higher r.p.m. than that of other players.

I don't know, because I don't attend practices and don't have any inside sources, but I don't buy the narrative that Coach Jones is so much of a control freak that he insists on squelching talent. Like Randy Haynes last year, MHJ will see the floor when his obvious talents warrant it.

+1 spot on.

To me there is a big difference between getting playing time and getting quality playing time. It's all well and good for these guys to get mop up time at the end of blowouts but i don't know how much they develop when it's our end of the bench against the opposing teams end of the bench. I would love to see them get at least one rotation per half with the primary group to develop a feel for a real game flow.

I don't think there are enough minutes at this time for both to find time. In hind sight it would have been great to have one of them pick up some time this year and the other red shirt. Oh well, that ship has sailed.

One thing we really don't know about the redshirt idea is what the players themselves thought of it. In the end it's the players decision. As far as we know Jones could have asked them to redshirt and they said no. It's happened before so I don't think it's totally fair to say Jones should have redshirted without knowing what the conversation was between player and coach.

It is not a player’s decision on if they redshirt. 03-banghead

Don't care. Some players perform better in game situations. Reports are that TH was that type of player. If Wilder took the Jones approach he would have sat until his junior year. Players who are electric sometimes are unable to really shine in the heavily scripted scenarios practice brings. Isn't it really about how you perform in games? He has done well enough in the ones Jones has been generous enough to let him play in to show that he absolutely would not hurt the team playing at least a couple short rotations.
