DOJ/FBI Finally Agree To Give Docs They Were Stonewalling On,
Including Docs On Dossier

To Democrats: Buckle up, buttercups! Rachel Maddow reported on Rod Rosenstein meeting with Paul Ryan as meeting about Nunes, trying to suggest it was that they were investigating Nunes, which of course was untrue.

Quote:House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes announced late Wednesday night that the panel and the Justice Department had reached a deal to gain access to all the documents and witnesses related to the Russia investigation it has been seeking for months.

The California Republican had threatened to hold top Justice Department and FBI officials in contempt of Congress if they didn’t produce documents related to top agents’ alleged bias against President Donald Trump by Jan. 3.

As of 5 p.m. the committee still had yet to hear from the Justice Department, according to a knowledgeable congressional source.

Nunes then issued a statement shortly after 10 p.m. that he had spoken to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that evening and he believed the Justice Department “will provide the committee with access to all of the documents and witnesses we have requested.”

RE: DOJ/FBI Finally Agree To Give Docs They Were Stonewalling On,
Months of dragging their feet turning over said documents.

On what grounds does the Department of Justice stonewall the Congress when Congress clearly has oversight responsibilities?

Personally I don't understand why the Congress let's it drag on as long as it does.

Although Congress has oversight they don't have policing power. Who are they going to get to arrest the DOJ?

Quote:Another text referenced a second phone Strzok and Page used to "talk about Hillary because it can't be traced."

That text was sent just days before Strzok interviewed Clinton aides Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills in the FBI investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server.

A tidbit I had not seen before now.

RE: DOJ/FBI Finally Agree To Give Docs They Were Stonewalling On,
Quote:Rosenstein refuted the statement, noting that he has expressed concern with "certain aspects of certain things done by the FBI," but "in general throughout my experience working with FBI agents over the decades, I found them to be an exceptional group of public servants, very loyal, faithful and dedicated, and I believe some of the finest people that I know are agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

I don't think anyone is questioning FBI agents "in general". It's those at the top of the food chain who, for instance, removed the Hillary Clinton server investigation from an FBI field office and brought it "closer to home" for monitoring. Monitoring by those with political interests perhaps?

Nothing wrong with issuing a contempt of congress citation in a more timely manner. I doubt any federal employee wishes to have that on his record.

Yes they do and they can arrest anyone they find in contempt of Congress

If Rosenstein was arrested for contempt of congress, that would give Trump the reason to fire him.

True, but that has only been done twice in history to a member of the Executive Branch and I doubt congress has the fortitude to due such a thing.
Besides I doubt the accuser would go quietly and a stand off would ensue between the Congress Police and the DOJ/FBI. It would be a mess.

Rosenstein thought the exact same thing, until his meeting with the speaker yesterday afternoon.

I actually agree with you. I wish the House would act with the power they are given and start holding these people accountable.

Rosenstein appears to be clearly trying to hold things up because of Muehller. And the reason is clear; people who were on Muehllers investigation team are also participants. That should never happen. It will be more fuel to the fire that Muehller and his team have to go, because they are tainted and compromised.

I think Rosenstein was trying to give Muehller time to get other hit jobs out, but time is up.
