Do you think people that don't support Trump want the economy to falter? That is cutting off your nose to spite your face. I'm very glad the Dow is doing well.
Yes. Some of them are banking on it as their only chance to take back power.
Sad.
I don't think the stock market or the tax cuts will be the primary issues that move the needle. There is plenty there for Democrats to effectively run on.

I agree. They'll find other stuff. IMO, complaining about a robust stock market would be stupid in the first place. Only way I could see the Ds doing that is to play the class warfare card which would also be a mistake given the number or Americans with retirement accounts, etc.

lol, yep, Tom cant do it. Not without proving he's wrong, anyway. I mean, its a math problem. That could be difficult for a so-called accountant.
Again, I've already done it. Not my fault you're incapable of understanding it. The DJIA is not based on simple math equations. Sorry that you can't grasp this concept.
For the literate among us...some more information:
Quote:DEFINITION of 'Dow Divisor'
A numerical value computed by Dow Jones Indexes that is used to calculate the level of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). The Dow Divisor is critically important in calculating the level of the DJIA, which is obtained by summing up the prices of its 30 component stocks and dividing this figure by the Divisor.
The Dow Divisor is used to maintain the historical continuity of the index, since there have been numerous stock splits, spinoffs and changes among the Dow constituents since the index was first introduced in 1896. The Divisor is continually adjusted to account for these changes, since the value of the Dow would be distorted otherwise.

So the unit of measure for the dow divisor is the dollar sign?
Come on Tom. Just admit you thought you were being a cute little *******, and it blew up in your face.
Dude...there's a reason they say this:
Quote:NEW YORK — The closely watched Dow Jones industrial average topped 25,000 points for the first time Thursday, continuing a run that lifted stocks by more than 20 percent in 2017.
And I provided the information as to why. If you choose to ignore that, so be it. I actually have come to expect it from you.
And no, the unit of measure for the Dow Divisor is not a dollar sign, it's just a number.
Quote:The new divisor is now 0.145233969 from 0.146021281. In other words, a $1 price move in any Dow component translates to a price swing of 6.8854 from 6.8483 points.

For most of us it is. But its also fun to watch Tom make an ass out of himself and then have to contort his position.
And what position did I contort?
I provided the precise explanation way back in Post #13, with credible source material, of why you were wrong and have not wavered. But in post after post, you've continually ignored the explanation and the facts and have stuck to your incorrect position.
If I'm being as ass here, it's in that I'm trying to stick to facts and arguing what basically amounts to minutia. Am I being too critical? Perhaps, but I'll wear that as a badge of honor every day as opposed to someone who continually refuses to accepts facts.

The reason the dollar sign is allowed is because it has to be. The divisor is not a dollar amount. When you divide a dollar amount by a number, the result is a dollar amount.
There, you have been educated today. Next time get educated before acting like you know what you are talking about.

If wages are up and people get to keep more of that money, what is there? I guess if healthcare blows up there may be something.
Trickle down doesn't have a good track record but I hope we see significant increases in wages as they have been stagnant for a long time.

Each race of course would have their own issues particular to the situation, but these are a few that would work in favor the party out of power.

RE: Bam! - Dow hits $25K this morning
The stock market has been rising for 9 years and hitting record highs for several. The only major policy change from the Obama era was passed at the very end of this past year. Everything else has been trump nibbling around the edges with the limited things you can do on executive orders. No Obama supporter is surprised that the economy has continued it's upward movement. We've added drops at a slightly lesser rate that the last few Obama years, we've grown gdp at a slightly higher rate overall. Consumer confidence and the stock market have continued to rise.

Paul Ryan in early December.
“We're going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit,” Ryan said during an appearance on Ross Kaminsky's talk radio show. "... Frankly, it's the health care entitlements that are the big drivers of our debt, so we spend more time on the health care entitlements — because that's really where the problem lies, fiscally speaking.”
