Towson started 0-2 in CAA play, but don't let that fool you. Tough road losses against Charleston and Elon does not portend doom for for the Tigers this season. Particularly not after a very successful non-conference slate, when Towson went 8-3 against D-I opponents, including a 5-0 record in neutral court tournaments. As a result, they are # 76 in the RPI.

And unlike Drexel, Towson has had remarkable continuity throughout the season. The starting lineup for Head Coach Pat Skerry has not changed through their first 14 contests.

But that's not a reflection of Towson lacking depth, either. 9 players have averaged 12+ minutes per contest, keeping the starters fresh. And it seems that every player on the roster are big and physical, capable of shooting from the perimeter, rebounding, and protecting the rim. As a team, the Tigers are shooting .379 from 3, compared to just .293 for opponents. They're out-rebounding opponents by a wide margin (38.9 to 33.6) and block a ton of shots (62, 4.4 per game) compared to opponents (43, 3.1).

The one area where Towson struggles is ball movement. They struggled in this area last season as well, which cost them in their semi-final loss against Charleston, when they put up just 59 points of offense. The Tigers have just a 0.92 A:TO ratio this season.

This will be a grind-it-out type of contest where we can't rightly expect to be the more physical team. But, we can still be the smarter team, better passing team, play the kind of defense we did against Delaware, and perhaps create some key turnovers. All of that will be a necessity on the road in this game against a team hungry for it's first conference win of the season.

RE: Towson
Towson or Charleston is probably still the conference favorite, so this is an excellent test on the road for you guys. If you can keep Cacok out of foul trouble, it will be a good game. Win this one and you guys are squarely in the race. Towson will be desperate not to go 0-3, much like you guys were last night. Expect about 20 over the back efforts from the Tigers. Their motto has always been foul until the refs stop calling it.

I really think Pat Skerry is the best coach in the conference. Going to be interesting to see how C.B. McGrath hold up against him.

Really? I feel like he’s underperformed with some of the talents he’s had there

RE: Towson
His past teams haven't scored a bunch, have held opponents scoring down and they NORMALLY control the glass. It's really not a bad way to go if he can get enough scoring. He's been lacking some dynamic guard/wing play in the past few years. If he can get that at some point, they will be a factor provided that they keep getting bigs. I haven't kept up with them this year.

RE: Towson
If you guys thought Keatts was bad about stubbornly sticking to one style of play, Pat Skerry takes that to another level. His team has played the same style since he arrived: Lot's of 1-on-1 play on offense, hard and physical (fouling) defense. Eddie Keith II has already fouled out of 4 games so far this season. Neither of those aspects of his strategy will win you a CAA Tournament or NCAA Tournament game in the long run. Not with how well teams move the ball and how whistle-happy referees are in today's game.

Can't imagine how anyone would think he's a better coach than Bill Coen or even Tony Shaver. Both coach at schools with very high academic standards and yet are always at or near the top of the league.

I think we are going to be a tough out for Towson. We may not win but I don't think we will get blown out

RE: Towson
That seems to be a fair take, but the Hawks are 11 point road dogs in this one. The key will be getting stops and playing at least even on the boards with less than 14 TO's. The TO's are a problem and can be fixed. Much of that is forcing the ball when it's not prudent-reversing the ball can work wonders to get spacing and a good entry angle. I liked the weave action of the guards and getting downhill. That can work in my mind in this game or any game-love the weave action...just love it. I'd like to see some hard drives with some cleanup by a big or a drive and kick a bit more. Help defense and staying in their bubble individually will be a key. It's a work in progress but a few are getting it. Taylor has looked better in that regard for example and the walk on PG and Talley generally do a good job. The others will get there hopefully. It's about playing each possession with focus right now and the results will come eventually.

RE: Towson
The good news is Cacok had 17 points and 9 rebounds at Towson last year for the win. He was 7-9 from the field. If he can have a good night and stay on the court it will mean a lot.

The bad news is Towson is a big, physical team. Our guards will have a hard time stopping the drive. IMO, our willingness to play zone to stop penetration and keep Cacok out of foul trouble will be the difference. If we play zone for 40% or more we have a chance. If we play man, the 11 point spread will be a given.

I Might place some money on Towson, A, because i think it's a horrible match up for us, B, that way i win either way :)

I would give you a hard time for betting against the Hawks but that may change our luck on the road. This team should be able to compete you would think...
