For interesting perspective USF vs Texas Tech at noon that same day had twice as many viewers (3.4m). So looks like the entire nation of sports (or football) fans was not watching, guess having a bowl game on a Saturday night of a holiday (and holiday travel) weekend may have been a blessing after all.

NFL's Minnesota vs Green Bay had 4.1 share 15.3 million viewers Saturday 12/23/17
Btw, at least a dozen of the Bowl games were blow outs.

Winning a bowl game is like winning a game in the NCAA tournament. The entire nation of sports fans pays attention to bowl games. Most fans nationally do not care who wins the MAC. We had our chance to show the country on ESPN (not ESPN2 or ESPN3) what a quality program we have. That was not accomplished.

Maybe but besides your dedicated fans, does the entire nation of sports fans (or even entire national of football fans) really pay attention to every and all bowl games?

They see the score. They see the highlights as they watch the game they are interested in. Other than the average football fan might not have any long term recollection, the football community in general will. But the bowl (ESPN) needs money so they need players. The bowl games will be there no matter how bad it gets.

The MAC bowl performance was dismal and UT led the way. There's no lipstick to put on this pig, looks inbred to even try IMO.

Part of a dozen blowouts? UT can hide in the shadow of that? No. Complete inability to even score what Savanna St scored? That's a bit worse than being party to a "blowout." It will be fairly memorable.

Damage assessment time, not head in the sand time or get up and dust off time or it will blow over time, regardless it will or won't. It's be objective time, not be subjective time. Mobile deserved better. App St deserved better. UT programs deserved better. The debate if any should be on the meaning of "hold responsible."

Grade B+

For me, to obtain an A, I would like to have seen us not get embarrassed by OU and App. We need to figure that style of team. No disrespect to either of them but in order to truly advance the program's image on a national stage we can't take lumps like that.

agreed 100%

Yep my thoughts exactly B+

RE: Grade the 2017 Toledo Rockets Football season
So, grade the "season." I'm taking that to mean the outcome of the schedule. Considering how difficult it apparently is to win the MAC, I feel obligated to give them some sort of A. Up until the bowl game the OOC performance was fine. They won the games they should have won to rate as a good Toledo team. But, I attenuate the grade to an A- due to the notable losses. I give Akron Extra Credit for somehow beating Ohio, otherwise we most likely would have been beaten again in the MACC. I give our defense the Wernher Von Braun award for disproving the theory that defense wins championships.

On the losses, I expected the loss to Miami. The loss to Ohio leaves me 03-no (if Akron could do it...????). The disgraceful performance in Mobile leaves me profoundly disappointed. Though wanting to be optimistic I rather expected a loss, though. Appy's offense was the perfect storm for the defense our coaches prepared for the season. But, for our high powered offense to only get past mid-field twice--not even to the opponent's 35 yard line let alone the red-zone? Five times we couldn't even get beyond our own 20. 03-confused 03-no

Somehow, though, by August I will find a way to be refueled with optimism for the 2018 Rocket football season. 04-drinky04-wine04-drinky

As to damage assessment time, I suppose only time will tell in terms of impact on future recruiting (class of 2019 and beyond since 2018 is pretty much set). Hard for me to envision a HS recruit in fall of 2018 considering the terrible bowl outcome from the year before, rather than current conference championship and coaches/players/facilities/institution at time they visit and are recruited. I would think Kareem Hunt's success this season would far out weight the bowl outcome in recruits mind now and into next fall, plus MAC MVP QB (at least for RB, QB and perhaps offense recruit).

BGSUX sucking has included 3 trips to the MACC and 2 Conference titles in the past 5 seasons.

Look at what Saban did in the national championship game--made a significant change by pulling his QB for the second half and changing his game plan.

Then see what Toledo did at halftime of its bowl game---more of the same.

That is the difference between a great coach and an inexperienced coach. A team has to make adjustments when the plan is not working. Hold the coaching staff responsible. They got bonuses and raises for the success in winning the MAC. They should also be held accountable for terrible bowl game preparation and coaching.

RE: Grade the 2017 Toledo Rockets Football season
I voted A-. I feel the top 5 are weighted more.

1. MACC A+
2. 3-1 OOC with a very nice showing against MIAMI - A+
3. Undefeated MAC West - A+
4. Accomplished this losing Cody, 3 starting OL's, Skipper - A+
5. Signing some very needed recruits/JC transfers - A

5. Really being exposed by OU and ASU. That clearly needs to be tightened down. Even though it makes me want to barf, we didn't lose by 60. That takes a defense that keeps on playing. Hats off to those guys. Appreciate it. - D

I voted A-
But now that I see what the team did in the classroom, I am thinking A is in order
