Grade the 2017 Toledo Rockets Football season
Let's not rehash all the ugly details from the bowl game, but in all honesty given the complete season how would you grade the overall outcome of the season?
For me:
Grade A (MAC championship, would have taken bowl win and 25 ranking for A+)

Not to rehash it but to include it I would say:
Grade B+
For me, to obtain an A, I would like to have seen us not get embarrassed by OU and App. We need to figure that style of team. No disrespect to either of them but in order to truly advance the program's image on a national stage we can't take lumps like that.

I went with an A-. Played Miami tough for about 3 quarters, didn't fade away in November, and won the MAC.

Voted A- for almost the exact same reasons.

RE: Grade the 2017 Toledo Rockets Football season
My grade may have been lower, but the 13 year without a MAC championship really made that achievement a major one at least for me-it is the real reason they play-ultimate goal is to win the conference championship. But perhaps if that MAC champ gap had not been as long (or was a clear expectation at start of season), grade would have been lower reflecting looking for more than just the MAC this year-big bowl win/top 25 ranking. But that would have taken an undefeated season, certainly was not fair expectation for me this year as team still came into season with concerns on D and OL.

The team seem ill prepared for the Ohio game and utterly bewildered by App State. They were, however, ready for Northern and Western when it counted the most.

I would still give them an A. They did everything that the fans wanted them to do. I my opinion the lose at OU came after the big win over NIU no questions asked. The bowl game to me was that they played them last year and another trip to Mobile, really didn't excite them very much. That is no excuse but that is my opinion. I'm sure all of the coaches have watched that game over and over to find out where the trobules are.

B+ to A- for the season, but a F for the bowl game.

RE: Grade the 2017 Toledo Rockets Football season
I wanted to give a C, but begrudgingly went with a B+. I tend to be overly critical so I'm trying to temper my expectations.
Overall, it was an okay year.
Here are my deductions:
The Tulsa game was UGLY and we were lucky to win.
We played Miami tough for a half. Then we got our butts kicked. We lost by 22, I think people forget that.
We got our butts handed to us in Athens and Mobile. Inexcusable to play the way we did.
We got smoked in the second half of the MACC. If that game is 10 minutes longer, Zippity do dah wins the title.
Let's be real, the MAC is weak this season and we took advantage of it. I don't think this team plays the way they did and wins the west most seasons. Come to think of it, maybe I am teetering back on that B- to C ledge...

Sure we've had better, even much better teams do less because of the better competition and then there was the ending thud. But the trophy is still in our case so I can't go worse than B+.

Agree. Ohio and App were unacceptable losses and continued to show the weakness of our defense.

Troubles galore in every aspect in the final game. I am not buying that they did not want to be there.

Agreed. The need to find and build and O-line was exposed in both games. The need to build a real linebacking corp was exposed in both games. The need to find some leadership and resiliency was exposed. It will probably take about 2 years to build up the O-line and Linebackers. Luckily Toledo plays in the MAC, so they can get 8-9 wins on their skill players alone.

The MACC could have been 10 hours longer and Akron would still have gotten smoked. They were awful.

Not seeing the connection, or how that makes the 2017 team any better or worse.

Not a long time ago, we had the largest O line in the country...
