Amen. Kent State has an admirable program.

How is KSU down? They returned 4 of 5 starters and a key reserve offvlasr season’s MAC champions that went to big dance last season. This group beat Oregon State earlier this season

I know their RPI isn't very good, not much different than NIU's. If that's accurate, then they're down.

In the past we would be tied or within a few points with 10 minutes left and lose.
Great to see us win by double digits in that situation.

+1

Should not downplay this win.

The one player that’s gone from Kent St(Hall) was their best player. NIU lost its best player(Maric) from last year also. It was a good win because teams are starting to double Geno to not let him beat them and NIU found a way to win

The more I watch Thorpe the more I like his game. He scores, he defends, he can rebound with his length and perhaps even better, he can pass when it's a horrible shot. Still need to see more of that from him, Levi should not lead the team in assists too often like he did last night.

It was a great win if only because of how we played in the second half. Kent is a good opponent and has a good recent history. We were favored by a couple but that doesn't always mean we come through and win. Now we have to carry that second half attitude to the road games.

Huskies have no consistent scoring coming off the bench so they likely will be a 7-12 seed MAC tourney team. They need one more double digit scorer. I was thinking it could be Lacey James but doesn’t seem likely. This team could have Maric, Pauga, Key and Marshawn Wilson still. They would be a MACC serious contender!

I agree about Thorpe. We got an upgrade. Dante is so much more efficient than Armstead.

If they keep doubling Levi on the wing let him lead in assists. Marquette and Iowa did that and he had horrible games. He learned from those games and dribbled out of it against Kent and found the open guy mostly on the other wing for a wide open shot. He got the assists when he was doubled.

I agree that Thorpe is a good player and could be a 2nd or 3rd team all-MAC guy next year but Aric Armstead did so many things for NIU last year. Thorpe is a more consistent scorer but Armstead was better at everything else!

It is nice to finally have 3 players where any one of them could go off for 20 on any given night. We have had way too many years when we didn't have 1 player who could do that.

I agree Armstead is better at taking ill advised shots, costly turnovers and making everything a lot harder than it is. A good defender I totally agree but his efficiency on the offensive end was lacking for the amount of physical tools he had. You always preaching 3 pointers, I would think you would like Thorpe more with is 47% vs. Armstead's under 30% average?

I do like Thorpe a lot. Thorpe has made 9 three pointers on the season so that’s not much to go on. I didn’t think Armstead had a good season last year but he did so many things that the team needed.

Last year was my first year watching NIU basketball closely, so takes this with a grain of salt, but I was not impressed with Armstead at all last season except on the defensive end and occasionally he would bring more energy and really rebound.

In addition to agreeing with your assessment, the irony to me is that dekalb222 and others lament the absence of Armstead, Maric, etc., and appear less concerned with the continued pattern of players either leaving the program or being run off leading to the perennial "we're young.....still developing chemistry.....needing another to step up" in year seven.

Uiniu57, when did I say I liked guys leaving for whatever reason? I wish every guy Monty has recruited stayed the whole time. I believe had that happened and Highsmith hadn’t tore up his knee the Huskies could’ve won a MACC already. Do you believe the team would be pretty good this year if Maric was on it and Jaylen Key wasn’t hurt? Yes or no answer please!

Maric is the one piece we're missing from last year.

1) Didn't say that you liked guys leaving.
2) My point was that this is a pattern and the pattern is troubling.
3) Yes or no doesn't matter when it comes to woulda, coulda or shoulda.
4) Reality is Maric is gone, Key is injured, and NIU can't afford to buy out Monty.
In my opinion, he did not deserve the last extension, or any of the extensions he's received. You obviously see it different.
