Uh Oh ---- Nashville's loss is Memphis gain
nashville-music-studio-moving-to-memphis

A little more than a year ago, Scott McEwen had an epiphany that would end up bringing the Nashville recording studio owner to Memphis.........

It's going to be over by Foote Homes, by Vance Elementary. Interesting choice.

I figured he would want to be more in South Main.

They always come back to Nashville. Remember Chips Moman’s return in the 80’s with Schlenker and Hackett? It runs in 30-Year cycles. Elvis always came to Nashville to record. Even Timberlake has moved here now.

”NC: When you returned to Memphis in the mid-’80s, what happened?

CM: It was the same old city, and it was kinda like cuttin’ the same old song. Memphis still doesn’t have a clue about records. Sam Phillips broke through and sold some records, but I don’t know anybody else who really did, other than Stax. Living down in Memphis in the '50s, I saw that they didn’t know anything about how to go about getting a record out. I mean, getting a hit record was a big mystery. You’d hear 'em, but you wouldn’t know where they came from. We learned about music and its origins and everything. There’s still a lot more stories to be told. I’m tryin’ to think about those early times, and I can’t even think of nothing.”

Chips never had a chance here. He got hooked up with the wrong people, his personal life was in turmoil, his time had sorta came and gone. He did the Lewis, Orbison, Perkins album and not much more. He might have done the Walsh album that lawsuits held up, not sure though.

It's actually two blocks from Sun. On the other side of the tracks. I think those tracks are going to be abandon once the CA moves.

Lord everything is close in Downtown.

RE: Uh Oh ---- Nashville's loss is Memphis gain
You can thank Gannett for that wonderful move...they pulled the plug on the CA being a sponsor for it.
Hopefully some local entity will pick up their slack in time for next year's, or the CA will be able to do it again next year.

"CA President Michael Jung said the lack of sponsorship was a result of the paper's transition from Journal Media Group ownership to Gannett, but he indicated the withdrawal may not have been intentional.

"The Commercial Appeal supports the Spelling Bee and education in our region," Jung said in a statement. "Unfortunately, during transition we did not connect the dots for this year’s sponsorship. I am confident The CA will re-commit to next year’s Spelling Bee."

Haven't seen mention on this board that Dale Watson also moved down here. Some folks from Austin think Austin's loss is our gain. The more transplants Memphis gets the better.

Most of Foote Homes has been demolished. The new housing development, South City, like many of the others here, will be first class, market rate apartments, better than many in the Downtown area.

I guess some folks forget American Records. Don't know how to make records? LMAO
