So really, the pushed helmet should have worked to Memphis advantage but the chance of getting a personal foul on corn today was none. They are so nice you know.
Screw.
Job.

Wow. That was an obvious one.
The refs sucked. But in the grand scheme of things, bowl games don't freaking matter. Win the game / lose the game, does it really make that big of a difference?

Guess it would have been different if it was in the CCG or a New Years bowl but those guys from the acc did suck up the joint.

RE: So much for the emphasis on targeting
Generally losing a bowl game does feel exhibition like, but less so this year. This one mattered more, and the tenor of how it played out made it actually hurt.
The issue is less whether some calls were missed.
To me, this issue is the benefit of the doubt that even a lower tiered yet bigger conference school gets. There is an assumption of more wrongdoing on a Memphis part. And yes, I mean it.
By the time of the third quarter interception the pattern was in. Big play for Memphis...TOUCHDOWN, get fired up then see the flag. Big play for Memphis, get fired up, interception a no catch. Interception, momentum grabber, major excitement and fist pump, flag on Avery. Even if all those were correct, it was draining and when ISU had similar big plays they were not flagged. They do less wrong than a Memphis.
Yes, it looked like a bad call when their kid fumbled scoring the late TD. So that was one big one. Versus three big ones our way while we saw hold after hold on their replays.
So yes...I am happy to whine because schools like Memphis face more uphill battles. When we do make the plays to win, they don't count.

2 for 3 in terrible conditions outdoors from a Freshman kicker. I'll take it. You did not see the Iowa kicker out there.

Freshman.
Bad conditions.
It happens.
The game was definitely NOT on him.
