Official Unofficial Referee
I'm watching ESPN and they had a special on why Alabama does not get as many penalties because of this guy Eddie Conyers. He is the unofficial official referee for the Alabama team. He is responsible for calling penalties and stuff for all the practice plays at Alabama.
It seems he has been around since Gene Stallings.

Now, what if USM had an unofficial official ref. All of a sudden, we may see some of these penalties we always get every year go down.

Must be nice to have money to shart out and pay to have your own official on staff at practice.

They don’t get many penalties for 2 reasons. 1) the refs cheat for them, even against other SEC teams. 2) they are a disciplined team. Saban ain’t putting up with people that get penalties when he’s got 5 stars on the sidelines to replace them with.

how hard would it be to train and utilize a GA or 'walk-on' in that capacity......

or did I just wake up in willie wonka land.....

someone will have to explain how that would be slave labor or violates NCshiteforbrains rules.....

edit: deleted response to eagle9....this was aimed at yours...

If he’s at practice every day to observe & correct, shouldn’t he count as an additional coach?

Not referencing your post, just the situation in general. The NCAA has rules on how many assistant coaches/GAs a program can employ. If this guy is being compensated and is providing on-field analysis & feedback during practice on a daily basis, he should count toward that number.

Of course, we’re talking about P5 college football here. “Should” left town 15 years ago.

thanks....completely agree....that was my point about NCshiteforbrainsrules....

not only are we behind the 8-ball in coin, but they're doing everything they can to squash the wannabees whilst overlooking the elitists.....
