Are we getting what we deserve with Hopson or are we getting more than what we deserve considering his salary?
These stats are ok, but I think we are settling in for a Jeff Bower type coach. I always got the feeling that Larry Fedora was destined for bigger and better things.
You not only have to win games, but you have to win the big games and win big.
As soon as Hopson goes 50/50 on wins and losses, expect the AD to start the search for a new Head Football coach.
I personally think Hopson has no plans for another job. For the money we are paying, I think we are getting our money's worth. Should we sign on for 8 or seasons with Hopson to give us a Jeff Bower-like regime.
I'm struggling to say no, but stability feels so good at the head coaching level.
RE: Are we getting more (less) than our money's worth with Hopson?
in short.....yes....
we're now officially a 5A high school corched program....
....and it's not going to get any better on the nat'l scale......
those days are finis....
edit: today solidified it.....today was flat out embarrassing from a corching level....once we got down a few points, the offensive schematic became, "how conservative can I play call so we don't get our arse kicked even worse"
if I was a player on O, I'd be one pissed off ************......

RE: Are we getting more (less) than our money's worth with Hopson?
I’m reserving full judgement on Hopson until after his 4th year. Any college coach is due that much.
That said, through half of that timeframe, results are mixed. He appears to be doing a great job of recruiting and having the players physically prepared. The team also plays hard for him for 60 regardless of circumstances, as seen in the La Tech game this year. In the liabilities column, he’s often grossly overmatched by the opposition in the Xs & Os. Too often, things don’t work and we don’t have an answer. The timeouts on defense that end up taken in vain make him look plain goofy.
If, hope, and maybe he’s learning through all this and will improve in the areas needed. IMOHO, he’s far ahead of where Bower was after 2 years, but not as polished as Fedora was. It’s hard to compare Monken to the rest considering the cluster he inherited. If Hopson doesn’t become a better game coach, get comfortable, because he’s certainly good enough to win 6-8 every year in our current situation and will be here as long as he wants to be.
All in all, right now, we’re getting more than we deserve for his salary, but he’s getting paid the amount for which he agreed to do the job, so that’s no excuse for not getting better.
RE: Are we getting more (less) than our money's worth with Hopson?
He’s one of the lowest paid coaches in the country and has one of the lowest paid staffs. Lowest in C-USA in both categories. We’re getting more than our money’s worth, sad as that is.
However, I think we can do better. UAB and North Texas shouldn’t be whipping us at home. And this bowl performance could have been better. Can Hopson do better than this ? Time will tell. He gets until year 4 to show he can do better. Today, for the most part, Todd Monkens recruits were horribly overmatched against FSU. That’s not a knock on Monken. He pulled us out of the ashes. But his only good team was built around some really good offensive players that have since moved on, and not much else. Our 2015 defense was exposed badly against good offenses.
We were outcoached today no doubt. But the main problem was the huge disparity in speed. Do I expect us to be as talented as FSU, no. That’s crazy. But we were more overmatched than I even realized we would be. Our team is still made up of mostly Monken recruits. In year 4, that will no longer be the case. Hop has 2 years to close that talent gap some. That’s his main job. We’ll never have the talent the big boys have, but IMO we can close the gap and give ourself a punchers chance in these games.
I was disgusted watching the game today, but after thinking about it I realized we never really had a shot. We definitely should have shown better, and that’s concerning. But we are still at least 1 good recruiting class (after this one) away from being able to compete in games like this.

RE: Are we getting more (less) than our money's worth with Hopson?
FAU went like 3-9 last year and with the same players, Kiffin brought them to ten wins. You get what you pay for.
On another note, the result yesterday isn’t what any of us wanted, but that wasn’t a typical mid-tier P5 team. They were projected to be in the playoff until their QB got injured. And the talent we saw on both sides made our boys look like high schoolers. If we played someone like a Virginia, it’d be a much better game. FSU has a strange down year, but has national championship type talent, which most 6-6 P5 teams don’t have.
RE: Are we getting more (less) than our money's worth with Hopson?
The best team we beat this year was Marshall because they missed an XP at the end of the game. Marshall is an average team at best. We also lost to a middling P5 team and a straight up bad P5 team. We got smoked at home by the two teams who finished above us in the division. We beat La Tech only by a ridiculous miracle finish.
Did anyone watch UAB's bowl game? They got dismantled by Ohio. They have very little talent and they beat us by 18 at home.
People should be afraid about next year. Ito is gone. Our game plan of repetitively handing it off to him on slow developing draw plays against awful football teams can and will be no more. We all know ito is a hell of a player but we won't really realize it until next season. Every yard he gained against Florida State was due to his natural abilities. The line was terrible. Can we actually formulate a game plan next year?
The starters in the secondary that left most of Florida State's receivers wide open all day are gone.
RE: Are we getting more (less) than our money's worth with Hopson?
I made these same points in an earlier post a week before the game and got criticized for it. I said they would probably hand it to us with there second team and they did. We are an avg team in a below avg conference and it showed yesterday.
As for are we getting our monies worth with Hop? The answer has to be yes because you get what you pay for in this case. How much do we expect out of a coaching staff for what we pay them?

No. That's bull****. We technically could do better with a lower CEO payroll & more $$$ on recruiting with a better name or personality. The coach money is about to die outside of the P4. We are a teaching school and that is the fact. Good luck Coach, take us higher & you deserve better elsewhere. Otherwise, you're a teacher in Mississippi. Welcome to the club bro

BDR, shut the f*ck up before I beat you. With that said, we probably know some of the same people. There will be a day (10 years?) & I will arm wrestle you for interstellar ownership of the 49/59 corridor. Otherwise if I lose, who gives a turkey.
