Feel like the new age millennials just dont care about sports as much as older generations. Feel like there are way more liberal arts students now a days that would rather sit inside than be outside or engage in a "game atmosphere". Its just not their cup of tea.

Winning puts butts in the seats, regardless of the conference.

And sports viewership and attendance is taking a hit across the board. Young people just aren't as interested in spending that amount of time on going to games.

Blah blah blah excuse excuse excuse. There are tons of schools ODU's size that draw a lot more students than ODU, have much more energized crowds than ODU, etc. This has not always been the case. Lots of convenient excuses being floated by our admin and eaten up by some of you. They are doing a bad job. If you hear what some off the folks in the AD say off the record, even they agree that whats happening in The Ted is unacceptable.

If we averaged our capacity last year (if we sold out every game) we would have been ranked 50th in attendance. Last year we were 81st. Attendance isn't the issue, the issue is getting the atmosphere back to what it was. Usually winning helps but damn there are some low energy games that just make me sad. There was one game JJ rightfully called out the fans on it. We need to find a way to bring the energy back and I'm not sure what the answer is. I feel like it starts with the students.
Attendance is a problem. Reference Harry's article tonight. Lowest attendance since the 5-25 season this year and down nearly 30% from pre- 5-25 season when we were regularly averaging over 7k. Season tickets are less than half of what they were in the heyday and down 10% from last season, and students don't show up. Beyond all of that, butts in seats is even worse. This is looking like a managed decline at this point since there is no urgency to fix the issue.

It is all marketing. There is no Blaine Taylor, no Alex Loughton, no Valdas, no Gerald Lee, no Frank the Tank, and no Bazemore. There isn't even a Trey Freeman. We have a bunch of great kids and a coach that is strictly business. This is not a cheap shot on JJ... I don't think our coach has to be a local celebrity... just an added value BT gave to help with the marketing. Marketing needs to put a face on this team. I don't care if it is BJ or Caver, but they need to make the public feel a personal investment to come see a hometown hero. When people know who is on the team and who to watch, they are more likely to attend and invest in the season. It could all start with simply opening up and doing some kind of feel good story with Bruce Rader of how Caver overcame adversity when he was 12 years old and blah blah blah to hold and show in the news after the highlights of a game where he stepped up and had a big game.

There are 30,000 students. Even if 95% are new age millennial soy boys, that leaves 1,500 students that are willing to attend games if that is what's "going on". That would do it.

Maybe develop some sort of unspoken rule with the frats that the administration will look the other way on some things, like red Solo cups at after basketball game parties, if they are involved at the fame itself.

According to this ODU has under 20,000 students. So many folks now a days are taking online classes, they don't even have to leave their home. Sports are losing its attachment with many folks. There is just too much now on a zillion networks and streaming. Every time you turn around some team has moved to a new conference, it's just too much for average folks to keep up with. Heck, I don't even follow sports as much as I did five years ago and football is just too ridiculous with all the long term injury effects that are now well known. ODU is heading for a never ending money pit with this trying to keep up with all these other schools, IMO.

Again, it is not a problem everywhere. Hell its not a problem at our closest peer university 90 miles away. It just requires some innovation and hard work, things our admin and coach seem to be allergic to when it comes to fan engagement.

Last night, JMU was up on W&M by 9 points with 50 seconds left. They ended up losing in overtime

Obvious that Tony & The Tribe are on a magic carpet ride season. Even he admits he never thought they'd shoot as well as they consistently have. BTW, Oliver Tot, the kid who beat us from half court? That's his only 3 of the season. Yeah, I'm bitter.

VCU down by 25 at Dayton at halftime. Makes you feel a little better.

If they lose by 50, it'll be paradise.

Final: Dayton 106. FecesU 79. Time for a cigarette after watching that one.

Well it was by far my favorite game of this season. I loved it when the announcer said, well so much for Havoc. It really doesn't work without the fouling at the Segal Center.

Sorry guys. Didn’t realize I was in the wrong thread. Guess I got too excited. On a more topical note, Towson CRUSHED Bill & Mary by 26 today.

Thanks for posting. Let’s see if “Tribal the Troll” and his band of cronies come back. Bunch of clowns.
