Great point on the hostages. He's the ultimate bluff catcher. Don't push him, unless you're willing to go all the way. And if you dare, he'll crush you.

"...no great brain but a big smile". That struck me that he was speaking in future tense, aka, Oblunder.
He hasn't changed and he certainly is walking the talk, to the Demons dismay.

I think he is low life trash but that ain't never stopped anyone from being president.
His biggest mistake as president so far, in my opinion, was his failure to expect to win, he's done a pretty lousy job, in general, appointing people because he arrived unprepared with a motley staff for the most part.
Some of the judicial appointments put forward are horrifyingly bad. It's not that much work to find say the top 3 grads from the top 20 law schools and the best law school in each state from 1992 to 2002 who were members of the Federalist Society. There many highly qualified conservative lawyers that could have been tapped that would have avoided those woes.
What will be fascinating is how he does after the mid-term elections if the Democrats take the House which they are likely to do and the Senate will likely be 51-49 or 50-50.
He has a long history of favoring "liberal/progressive" ideas like universal health care and paid maternity leave was part of his platform. A changed Congress may result in changed priorities.

He is trying to drain the swamp. Making appointments trained by and entrenched in the swamp and in swampy fraternities is what he is trying to avoid. Change management takes even longer when you throw in the politics and fake news.
