... and with good reason, because I'm not a USF "fan". A fan is someone who roots for a team from afar, who knows them from TV and started cheering for them because they were good. E.g., you probably saw UConn win the 2004 hoops title on TV and so went to Walmart, bought a UConn t-shirt, and have been cheering them from your living room ever since. But there's no roots there, no multi-dimensionality to your connection. UConn is just a bunch of guys wearing hoops and football uniforms at different times of the year on your TV set.

But I spent 11 years on the USF campus, as a student and then as an adjunct. I'm an alumnus and supporter, which is far different from being a "fan".

I'd say the Houston loss was a collapse, but it really didn't cost us anything, so not really relevant to this season. Hurt a lot, sure, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

In the end, we're happy to add another trophy to our trophy case, even though the season fell short of our best hopes. On to next year.

I understand the temptation, but one reason to "why not" is ... ridicule. E.g., remember when 2004 Auburn had some kind of national title "ring" made up, and they held a parade? That drew a lot of laughter around the country.

UCF just needs to become P5, like we all do, to play for the title. That seems to be the sad fact of the matter.
