RE: Disappointing basketball season so far
Season is a little worse than I thought it would be; 3, maybe 4 NCAA teams...

9 Wichita St (4)—NCAA team
10 Cincy (11)—NCAA team
23 SMU (24)—NCAA team

40 Houston (64)—Bubble team

61 Temple (63)—NIT team.
83 UCF (60)—NIT team.

Losing record or non NIT teams
112 UConn (69)
121 Tulsa (82)
153 Tulane (189)
163 Memphis (132

Awful complete garbage which should’ve been expected.
282 USF (242)
302 ECU (173)

I thought UCF, UCONN and Houston would be better this year and be NCAA teams for 6 bids. But I’ll take 4. Most likely it’ll be 3 NCAA bids for the AAC thus year.

Interesting take, because by all metrics, Houston IS better this year. We just can't seem to live down our reputation of being awful for a long time, and so we're not getting any benefit of doubt.

I think this is the year the Coogs finally make it to the dance.

It's an army/ECU fan; don't pay much attention to basketball evaluation from such sources.

Houston is probably an NCAA team as long as they avoid a bad loss.

Temple is in barring collapse.

UCF needs a couple solid victories when Taylor is back and they are in. The NCAA takes injuries into consideration.

UConn could get on the bubble with a Nova win and a good conference record. Long shot. Maybe NIT.

Memphis could get on the bubble with LSU win and an upset or two in conference, but even then probably NIT team. NIT long shot without LSU win and or conference upset.

Tulane needs help to get NIT bid.

ECU and Usf keep making progress.

Here are the current Pomeroy ratings (with season starting Pomeroy rank in paren):

23 SMU (24)
40 Houston (64)

Cincy, Temple and SMU are performing about as expected.

Everyone else (including Wichita St) is performing worse than expected.

Oh yeah, we're just pure garbage. Terribly sorry we're not undefeated and #1 in the country. Had we enjoyed the schedule of a Cincy (SOS 261 01-wingedeagle) perhaps we might be 10-0 right now...

If this, if that. These Napoleons always making excuses and comparing themselves to Cincy. Yes they’re the perpetual little brother. But the blaming and defecting gets old. Can’t imagine how bad it will get when they tank in the conference.

We don’t have a coach and are 4-1 since firing him. UConn needs to make a coaching change. Not sure about Memphis.

with 2 starters out with injuries. One of them being a 2nd round NBA type. The other is our starting PG. Pretty good considering.

It's gonna be fun blasting these guys 03-wink. I think Houston and SMU will give us way more problems than Cincy will. Guess we will see.

Things you never thought you'd tweet: UConn lost a pair of games in men's basketball to Auburn and Arkansas by a combined 60 points.

That got me thinking: How many years after winning a championship can you fire the coach ? (yes, yes - he did it with Jim Calhoun's players but he did it nonetheless).

For me, 6 years, maybe 7. Not sure.

At 9-3, I think Tubby as a coach has gotten all he can out of these guys. I really expected worse, so I'm not all disappointed with the OOC season with this particular team. Just disappointed with the program as a whole.

Now if the guy would only get off his naptime and go out and recruit, we'd have a pretty bright future.

Memphis was in the conference tournament finals against UConn in March 2016, so who knows? Lol. But both teams were pretty bad then, though not nearly as bad as now imho.

It’s not a great basketball conference. Better than some but it’s a 3 bid league. Too much drag on the bottom half.

Most of the conference is putting resources into basketball improvement, so at least we have a foundation to get better and recognize that the status-quo is unacceptable. Some just need new coaches, hint, hint.

I think too many of the schools went into football only resources mode when the B12 dog and pony expansion talk was heating up. Playing catch-up now with resource allocation for basketball.

Cincy and Houston open renovated arenas next year. Memphis is building a basketball practice facility.

The future looks bright.

I do believe Tubby can coach, but I agree about his recruiting. Even at Kentucky his recruiting classes were at times underwhelming, although he did have a couple of really good ones. But anyone can recruit at Kentucky.

Great press on WSU over on CBS as they showed highlights of their dominant performance over FGCU in the last minute-30 of the game to pull out the big win.

Depends Auburn fires their football coach I think two years later. It’s one thing if you build the team and win a national championship. It’s another if you are a 9 seed and the seniors play their butt off and win. If coaching was good they would have been a 1 or 2 seed.
