Ranking the D1 teams in MI
1. MSU
2. EMU
3. OU
4. UM
5. WMU
6. CMU
7. UDM

I put UM at 4 because they're afraid to schedule EMU, OU, and any other mid-major that can beat them. On a neutral court UM would lose to either of them. Wish the media had the balls to discuss the inequalitie$ in $cheduling college hoops.

Thoughts?

Dear WoodenNickle,
I agree with your ranking and your statement about the media. I also saw that the Little Caesars Arena wants to have a college basketball tournament next year. I wonder who will be invited?

Not us if Belein has anything to say about it. I guarantee that UM will play CMU.

It's a shame that the Horizon League doesn't do a MAC/ Horizon Challenge like the Big Ten and ACC

I'm sure Steve will like this:

1) MSU
2) UofM
3) Oakland
4) WMU
5) CMU
6) EMU

Hopefully this inspires EMU to play better in the MAC than how we did OOC.

Yeah, you and your buddy, Luckie, the official from the Syracuse game who couldn't get the calls called fairly... Wrong, wrong, wrong... 04-chairshot

Tony Paul should know better, too.

I agree on 1 and 2. Presumably agree on #3, although there is a lot of that 'grass is greener" on the other side of 275 going on here.

EMU is #4 (or 3, TBD) with WMU 5 and CMU 6. UDM #N (dead last among D-I teams).

Obviously this is based on NC records and the assumption that MSU and UM are 1 and 2. I agree about MSU but not UM. If they were to play EMU or Oakland on the road or on a neutral court then they might get beat. We'll never find out because Belein has no balls.

CMU is ranked too high (hello George) but that will change on Jan 10.

RE: Ranking the D1 teams in MI
I agree with Nickle’s Point. MSU is the only team that is ahead of everyone. UM beat CMU by only 7 at home. And I (and the computer rankings) regard CMU to be worse than Oakland and EMU. So what if UM played CMU on the road, or EMU/Oakland at home? Would it be a loss? I realize one game is not statistically significant, but raise a good point/question.

Also, CMU is actually a decent team this year. The article Luckey shared points out that most of the MI teams other than UDM are pretty good this year. And I agree.

Dear RamyEMU,
I would disagree with CMU being decent this year. The only teams they played that were decent was U-M and Southern Utah, and they lost those games. Their out of conference schedule was very weak. If, they do something in the MAC this year, I will be shocked.

I don't know Nickle, if we can make the tournament, the NCAA committee would love to match us up with them.

RE: Ranking the D1 teams in MI
I know there are mixed feelings about computer rankings on this board. And different computer rankings say different things. But I have always found Sagarins to seem somewhat accurate...
http://sagarin.com/sports/cbsend.htm

100 Buffalo
128 Ball St
138 Toledo
142 Ohio
155 EMU (167)
169 CMU (343)
172 WMU
194 Kent St
195 Akron
215 N Illinois
230 Bowling Green
259 MiamiOH

I put the strength of schedule in parentheses for EMU and CMU in case George came by to argue about anything.

I truly believe that EMU could beat UoM, Oakland (already did), CMU and WMU. I believe we could lose to those schools as well. Don't overlook CMU, I saw them play against UofM. They have some decent outside shooters. On paper, I believe we have more talent than any D1 mi school excluding MSU and UoD (kidding!!).

I don't know what's wrong with UofD but it surely would be nice for Corey Allen to transfer back home.

If EMU knocked UM out of the tournament...let's just say I might not be at work the following day.

I agree with Ken. I do find it a bit disingenuous to see his comments explain in great detail how EMU played well and lost. But CMU played UM tight the entire game on the road and only lost by 7, with no mention of it. But whatever, we did lose.

However, I am now confused at which SOS is accurate. the RPI SOS has CMU at 316 and EMU at 244. So I guess it depends on which ranking system you use to determine RPI. As I said earlier, the only time RPI or rankings will matter is if a MAC team manages to have an insane record but not win the tourney. In that case, my guess would be CMU would have to go like 26-5 or something crazy to get an at-large, which won't happen. However, a team like Buffalo could get in because they played a really good OOC.
