Auburn and UCF achieve a sell-out of the 2018 Chik-fil-A Peach Bowl
http://www.chick-fil-apeachbowl.com/2017...sary-game/
Quote:Since its inaugural game in 1968, the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl has attracted more than 2.88 million fans to Atlanta, with an average of 71,334 fans attending the game since 2000.
UCF will be making its first trip to the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, while Auburn will make its sixth appearance. Auburn currently holds a 4-1 record in the game, with its last appearance resulting in a 43-24 victory over Virginia in 2011.

Good thing the stadium is encapsulated? Or do they usually have the roof open for football games?

From a bowl committee standpoint, UCF was a great catch for them. It did not turn out to be the nightmare scenario of being stuck with the G5. To sell out like this, in addition to the possibility of scoring some better than expected ratings....... actually I think this bowl will do better than the Orange bowl.

Plus they also get the national championship game. The team that gets the championship also gets “stuck” with the G5... but they definitely hit the jackpot.
We’re doing our part guys! Let’s go AAC!

This kind of goes with something I've wondered about...that if Tulsa happened to be good enough to make a NY6 bowl, would we actually get selected due to our small fan base? I'm not sure we could sell 10,000 tickets to a Peach or Rose Bowl. Maybe the Cotton Bowl due to proximity. Idk if I could even go so I really don't know about anyone else.

I think Tulsa would sell 10,000.
We sold about 13,000 through UH and probably had another 2-3,000 there. Definitely outnumbered by Florida State fans, but considering Atlanta is a huge FSU alumni town and Tallanasty is only 4 hours away, I was pleasantly surprised.
I think the Peach Bowl was surprised too because the other big difference is I saw a ton of UH fans 3-4 days before the game all over the place but very few FSU folks. It appeared they came in the night before or day of and then went home.

The best G5 gets auto-bid. The bowl that get the G5 also gets the championship game to “even it out” if you will. So, they get the “worst” NY6 game but get the championship.
The Peach Bowl just lucked out with it happening to be UCF.

We sent 15,000 to Cali in the early 90's and 15,000-20,000 to the 1st liberty bowl. Dallas or Houston to Atlanta is easy for our alumni base, Atlanta is a long drive but a few from Tulsa would make it for a ny6 game. I think 10,000 would be probable to the peach. The rose would be tougher but I can see us getting it done. The cotton or sugar would be the easiest and I could see 15,000-20,000 easy to either.

The Sugar Bowl would be my dream bowl.
Easy drive. Fun town. Houstonians love going there. Hell, my daughter's sorority just held their formal there last weekend. It's very common for UH greeks to hold their formals there. I think if we ever landed the Sugar Bowl, we'd have 30,000 there easily. We'd bring more to New Orleans than Dallas (Arlington) for sure.

I can see that for sure. The Cotton would be our version of that. Or my version at least.

If UCF ever made the Orange Bowl... it would be wild. It would be like a home game. I think the soonest that can happen is 2021...

It's a real shame that UCF isn't there this year.
Miami vs. UCF in the Orange Bowl would be quite the matchup and one that SHOULD have happened. Reason #1,456,734 that the bowl system sucks.
I'd be more interested in a Miami-UCF Orange and an Auburn-Wisconsin Peach.

That would obviously be the dream destination for UCF fans, but the Orange Bowl has contracts with the SEC/B1G/ACC/Notre Dame the years they aren't a semifinal host site. No G5 is playing there anytime soon. Ditto with the Sugar and Rose.

The G5 will play in whatever bowl the National Championship is being held at. So the G5 will be in the Orange Bowl in 3 years in 2021.

Dude, take 30 seconds and do a little searching. The G5 destination is whatever at-large slot the CFP committee determines. Currently only the Peach, Fiesta, and Cotton have at-large spots when they are not CFP sites. The championship game isn't even necessarily at a NY6 bowl site. It was in Tampa last season. Its in Santa Clara in '19, and Indianapolis in '22.
