A little bit of both. Most Marshall fans have wanted him gone for years but he managed to stay employed because he's friends with Doc and our AD. There was a rumor that he would resign after the bowl game but one of our beat writers hinted that he was staying in his article after the game.

Either way I'm thrilled. Now there're no excuses. It'll be Doc's turn to see the door if he doesn't win the east next season.

Not sure if his contract had ended, but no coach resigns if their contract isn't up, probably not even if his contract had ended. He was fired, he just got to say he resigned.

I think Marshall should interview Kendal Briles. 05-stirthepot

Well, now we'll find out if the lack of creativity was on Legg or was just Doc imposing his will. Of course Doc may go out and hire some other 50 year old guy who prefers 1982 Big Ten football also.

I can't wait to see who we hire. I'm renewing my Big Green membership tomorrow just like I said I would.

If it's true, as some suspect, that Doc was hamstringing Legg (no pun intended) then you might find that a solid hire bringing a ton of experience to the team. If not, make sure to keep your AD twit away from the extension forms.

I'm more excited Legg is gone simply to find out whether he was just a scapegoat or whether he was too oldschool and not up to the task. Either way wish him the best. It was never personal.

Have to see this as a positive step. We were stuck in a lower gear and seemed a bit too predictable on offense. I'm not giddy over the loss, but do think it was time for him to go.

Now you will see the pure hypocrisy that emenates from MANY Marshall fans. They claim they don’t do many things to support the program and they have used Bill Legg as their lame ass reason. Now that he’s gone you still won’t see these same liars do anything.

Bill Legg wasn't a bad coach when Rakeem Cato was wrapping up 14,000 passing yards. Listen he may had slacked off but in all fairness the talent he had on hand had dipped also. I think another program would be lucky to snatch him up!

That's one way to look at it, but the fact is that he was our OC for 8 years and in those 8 years the only ones that were good were 2012-14, the 3 years Cato was the full time starter. The other 5 years we never had an offense ranked in the top half of FBS. Sixty fourth was his best year outside of Cato and 3 of the 5 years we were ranked outside the top 100. Barely made it in the top 100 this year.

The talent may have dropped, but the average offensive rank with Cato was 7th and the average rank without Cato is 94th. At some point you have to say it was Cato and Shuler that made Legg look good, not the other way around.

Legg has been a good OC twice in his career, the years he had Cato and the years he had Painter at Purdue. Of course, if you give me that level of QB I could probably be a decent OC too.

Playing for the Richmond Roughrider's indoor football team.

He was released from the Montreal CFL team. He was their best QB, but new coaches came in and wanted a different guy. It didn't help them.

Several I know have upped their donations, including myself. Sorry "your team" may improve now, and bring in fans again, and possibly win again. But hey, that's what you want too, right?
