Its amazing how those can change ones opinion of an HC. Despite the tarnished reputation, Im 1000% more optimistic about next season now that K Briles has been named as OC than I was before. That said, I think Dykes is going to do very well at SMU. He's taking over a rising program and isnt starting out in the basement like Morris.

Like you, I have not been high on Applewhite or Dykes, but after seeing who they are adding to staff I am actually optimistic

Some of the reason I think you'll be OK with Dykes is we played LaTech a couple of times when Dykes was their coach. He can coach offense. If he can get a quality DC---SMU will be in good shape. 04-cheers

That was Tony Franklin, everyone knew the brains of the operation and it was Franklin.

He followed Dykes to Cal, Cal went 8-5 in 2015; Franklin leaves in 2016, Cal goes 5-7 and Dykes gets canned.

Yeah. Losing record breaking 3-year starting QB and #1 NFL draft pick Jared Golf probably had nothing to do with the drop off. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

Who do you think help develop Goff?

"I'd like to thank Coach Franklin for the significant impact he's made on my life from a football aspect and the overall life lessons he has taught me. I have never had a coach change my outlook on life more than he has in these past 3 years. He has taught me so much about myself and guided me in the process of being a Division 1 quarterback week in and week out. I would not be anywhere close to where I am now without him." - JARED GOFF

Same guy who was there when he won one game. It takes time to develop a QB. I think Franklin is a good coach and never said he wasnt. But you almost never go from a 3 year starter and #1 NFL draft pick QB to a first year newbie QB without it having an affect on team performance. I mean--Cal only won 8 games WITH Goff. Besides, Middle Tenn went from 8th (in 2016) in total offense to #71 this year. Franklin was the OC both years. Probably something similar happened there.

Frankly, I think the biggest issue for the staff in Cali was they were out of their recruiting element. I think Dykes will do very well back in Texas at SMU.
