Marshall screwed by refs at Xavier
Unreal. 5 possessions blatant bad calls, and 4 of them led to 6 xavier points plus taking away possessions from Marshall. Unbelievable charge/blocking calls there. Marshall can't get closer than 9, then the refs come in until its back to 14/15.

81-77 final. If not for those terrible calls man, could have won this game on the road, in spite of the worst half of the year.

Heck of a game, hopefully it doesn't lead to a Xavier hangover for the next game.

We get the same kind of favorable officiating at home, it is what turns me off college bball. The score was very respectable though X was without three starters, three point shooting percentage has to improve.

RE: Marshall screwed by refs at Xavier
I thought the calls were pretty evenly split. They had several charges called also, just a little later. And replays made them all look legit. Also the call where Peneva got knocked down wasn't even a foul, he just fell back and they whistled Xavier.

If the refs are calling something particularly, don't do that something. Seems simple enough.

The Big 10 head of officials called Coach Stansbury to say the official screwed up that call with ~2 sec left in the game. Doesn't help us any after the fact since WKU still lost 81-80 to Wisconsin when the Badger player hit the game winning free throw based on the bad call.

It could do wonders for the team, though, to know they won that game. Good confidence builder.

There were several blocking calls on us that weren't blocks, that led to points and lost possessions. 3 i can remember. Those alone make the difference.

That being said, yes, if we shot anything like we can from 3 before the last couple minutes, we win anyway.

I agree. But they got some against them in the second half which were either way calls. Sometimes it happens at the worst possible time, though, just as we got some steam. I just didn't come away feeling like we'd gotten robbed as happens so often.

Marshall played scared and extremely poor in the first half. Coach D' calmed them down and they played extremely hard and well the second half, just a couple buckets from making it really interesting. Proud of how they fought back and can't wait to get into CUSA play.

As usual, we're gonna be handful for any team that takes us lightly and for some that don't. We've been under the radar for the last couple years until we weren't, top 4 finish in '15 and finals in tourney in '16. It's like our team jumps out and yells surprise at the end of conference play. I'm hoping this year we just yell the whole way through to the top. But we'll see.

Playing close at Xavier is no easy task, well played by Marshall. That's proof you have a good team. Try not to sweat the close calls (easy for me to say) but you could say anything "if this happened, we would've won" endlessly. Bad refs are everywhere. It's part of the game, sadly. The charge/block needs a rework anyway.

Good observation about the officials. We beat OU Saturday 99-96 and The Herd was 27 of 31 at the foul line and OU was 14 of 18. Do you think anyone might think OU got hosed by officials?

We didn't get screwed by the refs. I thought it was a pretty evenly called game. We got a few breaks as did they.

I am extremely proud of our team though.

RE: Marshall screwed by refs at Xavier
I only seen 4 obvious bad calls. The Mijovic block early in the 2nd half was clearly a charge. Milan was set and standing straight up. The charge call on Elmore while driving, would have trimmed the lead to 5 at the time with 3:00 to go, the lead imed went back to 13. And the Burks or Watson elbow in the 1st half. The Xavier player clearly ran into the elbow without the player moving. We also clearly got away with a Penava charge on an old fashion 3 point play he made.

This game played out to much like the Pitt game last year to me. I was encouraged in the 2nd half that if we play that way we can play with anyone in the country. In the 2nd half we adjusted some and held them to 39% shooting while outscoring them by 16. Also I didn't know how well Rondale Watson could be, he had 10 points a rebound and steal in his 1st real game action in about a year and half.

I was impressed with Watson's length and athleticism. I was also impressed with how hard he plays defense. I'm sure he will only get better as he knocks more of the rust off and develops some chemistry with the other starters.
