ESPN Insiders ranking the bowl starting QBs
ESPN Insiders has a feature that ranks the 2017-2018 bowl season starting QBs. Can someone share where Childers ranks and what they say about him?

RE: ESPN Insiders ranking the bowl starting QBs
I don't have access to insider, but my guess would be not good based on the espn QBR system they use. Their QBR metric is suppose to measure everything a QB can do and they say it's a good barometer as an NFL prospect. So I'd guess that's what they're basing these rankings on. Here are just the espn QBR's for the season. Not a list from the article.
#15 woodside - tol
#25 wassink - wmu
#29 rourke - ohio
#92 jones - Duke
#103 Childers NIU
The article says ranked in "pro potential" if that matters.

RE: ESPN Insiders ranking the bowl starting QBs
The article ranked them based on their pro potential. Childers is ranked 76th out of 78 quarterbacks. Only Malcolm Perry of Navy and Ahmad Bradshaw of Army are ranked behind him. Here is what they had to say:
76. Marcus Childers, Northern Illinois (Fr., 6-1, 215)
A 55.1 passing grade and a slight frame will limit Childers' pro potential, though he has been an effective runner in Northern Illinois' system with 543 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
Bowl matchup: vs. Duke, 5:15 p.m. Dec. 26, Quick Lane Bowl, ESPN

About what I expected... We definitely need an upgrade at the position. Hopefully, Thompson can challenge him next year and Hall can develop as a passer as we use his legs to get him some playing time next year.

Of course, hopefully Childers can develop into a weapon. If not, hopefully Thompson will.

So basically last. Bradshaw only threw 40 passes in 12 games. Perry has thrown 2 passes in 11 games.

But, on the flip side, probably only 5 current QBs have a true shot at the pros.
So really, 1-5 have potential, and 6 - 78 are on the same plane.

Childers is young and they've hardly heard his name, why would they push him to the top of the list.

Childers is only a freshman and has a chance to get a lot better in the coming years. Right now he probably should be rated toward the bottom of the list, that's OK.
Also, a slight frame? No.

I'm sure there are other freshman on that list. Childers is that low because he is ineffective. Even if it was just a list ranking them based on college performance (not pro potential) only he would still be that low. Without Huff, our offense will be completely non-existent (What little there was) in this bowl game.

That's the spirit. Remember we had no idea if Lynch could throw entering his jr. year. Chandler deserves a chance to grow or someone could also do the same and beat him out of the job.

frame is a different beast than height/weight at any given moment.
Like in bball many frosh are not 6-8 with more room to grow and bulk up as well. You cannot coach up both height nor frame.

But we knew Lynch could run very well. Also, I believe he was 4 for 4 in the bowl game against Arkansas State.

Lynch's great running ability was appearant immediately. Childers' will never be a great runner. Not sure if I'd even call him good. So he will have to become a great passer. Im not ruling that out. I'm just ruling out that he's a dual threat QB.
