Definitely agree that Towson is #1 and designed for basketball. Not having ever visited Charleston's arena, it sure doesn't look like it should be 9th, from those photos I'd move it up to 2nd. All the others look like they were designed for something else until you get all the way down to #10. Elon's is designed for basketball, but we aren't in high school.

Ok

To be quite honest I’m not impressed with any of the remaining arenas. Not been to new TU arena. I never liked W&m’s gym. Probably has been 20 years, but I recall some big opening on one side with a big curtain.

List of least bad in my opinion.

Towson's new arena is well designed, and actually looks and functions like a modern BB facility. I wouldn't poo-poo it. It's just too small (for JMU).

Surprised to see that JMU has the second largest capacity. Also WOW at W&M's facility 04-jawdrop I had no idea.

Cool article. Thank you for sharing it. I haven’t seen a lot of those facilities, but having been to Towson’s old arena, anything would have been an improvement.

Regarding JMU’s Convo, it is an odd building, whose time has passed. I think we will miss some things about it when it is gone, though. I doubt that the pep band will be able to rock the same way in the new facility. And I also don’t think seats behind the basket are a very good angle to watch a basketball game.

Pure speculation on my part, but Notre Dame may have played at Delaware because Mike Brey was the head coach at Delaware before he left for Norte Dame. Maybe it was a tilt of the hat--thanks--kind of thing.

The main thing that Towson screwed up is having the concourse in between the first and second level. That is prime seating area and could be used for more regular seats, club seats, or suites.

If that concourse was underneath and behind the seating area, they would have hit a home run. Look at the 1st level seating... everything is steep and retractable. There is no wasted space surrounding the court.

Fix the concourse problem and JMU could learn alot from the Towson arena when designing the new Union Bank & Trust center.

Or because his assistant took the UD head coaching job.

I didn't realize that, but that's probably a better reason.
