Stadium for Temple gains momentum

I suppose that's that best title for this post since it indicates that after being stalled for months, Temple is finally ready to present something regarding the stadium plans.
There will be no vote by the Board but a presentation instead calling for a $130 to $150 million stadium project. The stadium will seat 35k. Temple's attendance this year was around 25k at the Eagles NFL stadium which is far from campus and too large at 70k seats.

That would be awesome. Start with something like Tulane has (except they should have dropped the field another 5-10 ft. Almost impossible to see anything from the 4th row on the visitors side. Other than that I really enjoyed the stadium (not the game...damn u Tulane)

I especially like these two from the Comments section:

"The city, state, and DRPA should chip in $450 million like they did for the Eagles and Phillies. Why subsidize billionaire owners and millionaire players? Why should a corrupt government pick winners and losers? I get vibes there've been bribes."

And this one although I would have typed "I won't cheer for the Eagles." if I am an Owl fan/student/alum:

"If the Eagles and Lurie gave Temple the same deal that the Rooney's and the Steelers give Pitt then there would be less of a compelling reason to be build a stadium
However, that is not the case and Lurie and the Eagles are driving Temple to go this route.
I'll cheer for the Eagles. But I will ignore the sentimental claptrap of how these for profit millionaires "give back" to the community."

Best of luck overcoming politics and all with this Temple. Really enjoy sharing a conference with you guys.

There will not be a vote by the Board at their upcoming meeting on Tuesday but a presentation instead calling for a $130 mil to $150 mil stadium project. The stadium will seat 35k. There are also some concerns from the neighbors which Temple needs to address. Temple has extended their lease with the Eagles thru 2019.

The stadium would also contain a retail shopping complex. It would take 18 to 24 months to complete.
I have to assume that Fall of 2020 would be the earliest we could start playing there.

Can't open it unless you pay the right people, don't you know, that's how Philly works.

RE: Stadium for Temple gains momentum
It will be built and ready for opening day in 2020. Around 35K to start, expandable to the 50-55K range. Most likely goes over $150M to build it. Plan has been in the works for a few years now, and the financial and political hurdles have been cleared. There will still be backlash from multiple loony factions both at Temple and outside Temple, but there's a reason we're trying to silently pay for it privately. Naming rights should be interesting. Hoping the Katz family makes the lead gift, but I don't really care as long as it's built.

Despite what some fans say on our Scout board, this is needed and absolutely pivotal for the momentum and trajectory of Temple Football.

Houston spent $128 million on a 40k seat stadium. What kind of stadium can you build in Philly for $150 million?

RE: Stadium for Temple gains momentum
We spent around $139 million on the stadium. However, we saved a lot of money by already having the following in place;

1) Utilities- This is huge. Temple will have to clear land most likely and built connections

2) A 2,000+ car stadium parking garage

If you add those to the "stadium costs" TDECU would have been in the $180-190 million range.

That's why I think it'll be in the $180M-$220M range.

Pure construction costs are very similar in Houston and Philadelphia for major construction projects.

As long as they build it <28 miles from campus they should be ok.

I am guessing if they are at the presentation stage someone ran the numbers.
