Game Week: @Oakland
The kids get to savor their trip to So. Cal and a very nice win over a decent LBSU team. BTW, smart move getting out there Thursday. Travel can be tough on athletes. Chad indicated LBSU came out a day early to Ypsi last year and they were not rested and ready and got clobbered by us.

Next up Friday is @Oakland.

Oakland played very, very well vs. MSU for about 35 minutes before things went south yesterday.

I'd love to play Oakland say two days after that game. OU left everything on the court. Big, big game at Little Caesars Arena. Sellout crowd.

I'm hoping OU will come out flat. Will they? I don't know. Five days is enough to get their minds back on EMU...

Yeah, five days is long enough to emphasize that they're looking for payback from the last meeting, too. It also gives Nunn five days to rest that gimpy ankle. It will be a tough game.

When these guys played earlier this year I think Wetherbee was talking about how OU and EMU had held some kind of joint practices. Anyone know the story on that?

RE: Game Week: @Oakland
O/T but I see where Fort Wayne took it to Indiana big time behind a 3 point barrage and beat them by 20. Made 17 of 30 behind the arc, while IU struggled behind it.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketb...=400986444

Teams which make 15 or more treys while shooting 50+ percent behind the arc can beat most any team.

BTW, it looks like opponents are taking the trey to IU and good too...

"Indiana: It took less than 72 hours for the biggest win of Miller's first season to wear off. The Hoosiers now have two embarrassing losses to in-state mid-major teams. The Hoosiers gave up 34 3s in those losses and have allowed 51 in the other 10." (italics mine).

Really?? I too would be interested in this if anyone had more info.

I remember when the Boykins team beat UM, someone said they had familiarity playing against the UM players having played with them in the off-season. Was never sure if this was a pick-up game, or some kind of informal and unsanctioned practice or what. Wondering if something similar with OU is going on?

I think during the Boykin days there was a lot of pickup games between players from UofM and EMU.

They would be considered pick up games, not organized games, so no problem.

Did not realize that Oakland had a game tonight against Towson. There are no excuses for us to not be the rested team Friday. However the other "R word" rusty may come in the play with us.

Nunn and Hayes really got it done last night...

Yes they beat Towson who was 10-1 but no noteworthy opponents. However, I believe this game helped Oakland prepare for us. These young adults could play all day and since Towson was a home game and they have a day and a half for rest, Oakland will be ready. It will take a monumental effort to beat them at their place. Again, if we win or keep it really close, I would place us as a top four Team in the MAC. If we lose by 10 or more, then we're looking at 8-10 wins in the conference.

Can I ask why you would forecast our entire season off of one OOC game?

Towson was #4 on the Mid Major top 25 list. They're a pretty noteworthy team this season. Check out the list of guys who voted them in to the #4 spot:

Casey Alexander (Lipscomb), Roman Banks (Southern), Randy Bennett (St. Mary's), Will Brown (Albany), Jamion Christian (Mount St. Mary's), Jon Coffman (Fort Wayne), Jim Engles (Columbia), James Fox (Appalachian State), Derrin Hansen (Omaha), Steve Hawkins (Western Michigan), Jason Hooten (Sam Houston State), Brian Jones (North Dakota), James Jones (Yale), Mike Jones (Radford), Robert Jones (Norfolk State), Greg Kampe (Oakland), Danny Kaspar (Texas State), Tod Kowalczyk (Toledo), Greg Lansing (Indiana State), Jim Les (UC Davis), Dan Majerle (Grand Canyon), Bob Marlin (Louisiana), Ritchie McKay (Liberty), Rob O'Driscoll (Drexel), Jimmy Patsos (Siena), Kyle Perry (USC Upstate), G.G. Smith (Loyola), Damon Stoudamire (Pacific), Jay Spoonhour (Eastern Illinois), Willis Wilson (Texas A&M Corpus Christi), Mike Young (Wofford).

^^^^ I'd tend to trust their opinion.

Now...
If I can make a Captain Obvious statement...
Our length in the zone and overall team height really bothered Oakland in the first match up and helped keep Nunn in check until he stepped out closer to the volleyball line and started knocking down shots.

If we continue to start Nobles (who goes 6'9) at the two and in the top of the zone, get what we've come to expect from Thompson, Minnie, Bond, and Jackson, and get 12-15 points, 5 rebounds, and 3-4 assists from the combination of our three freshmen (Groce, McAdoo, and Ellison), I think we'll see another EMU victory.

KPJ,

My point was who has Towson beaten that's noteworthy?

Let's see . . . I do see a lot of the usual mid-major suspects in Ga Southern, Penn, Morgan State, Manhattan.

I got out of the transitive victory business a year ago when the MAC preseason ended up being completely irrelevant to predicting the actual MAC season.

Precisely - nobody noteworthy from the list.
