There were so many issues where Tommy Suitts and I disagreed, but he had a reasonable explanation for a statistic he called "Free-Throw Defense". His basic premise was that teams generally shoot a better FT percentage against weak teams or in games where there is a substantial point differential (either actual or perceived), because there was no pressure on the FT shooter.

In other words, "we're playing ______" and we're going to find a way to win (or " we have this game under control") so there is no pressure to make this FT...hence a better FT percentage and a worse "FT Defense" for the week teams.
