Without a doubt. But that's also a bit of luck. Neither Kill or Doeren could recruit a Harnish or Lynch level QB after they left NIU.

Yep.Carey has yet to do it in this smaller pond. Does he have one on roster and just not playing or developing them? I'm shocked Harmon hasn't been canned. I thought there was going to be a staff shakeup.

Carey is 0 for 5 years in developing a QB. He's had some bad luck with recruit flips and the injuries, but if Childers, Wright or Hall don't produce at a high level soon, he will have completely failed at one of the biggest parts of his job. Time and excuses are up.

Doeren did recruit a grad transfer in Finely who is going to be one of the better QBs in next years draft. I was hoping Rod would try and follow in Doeren's footsteps on this one too, but no luck (or doesn't want to go this route).

Certainly can't take that away from Doeren. I was referring more so to the difficulty in identifying HS talent that translates to FBS. A good coach must be able to do both. Identify the talent AND be able to recruit it. Doeren may not have done it with a HS kid, but he did do it with a inexperienced college kid. So credit for that.

Will he even open up the qb competition? Carey is a stubborn f,uck. I'm worried nobody will have a chance besides his slow bad passing boy, Childers.

RE: Easy OOC
Everyone's favorite QB next year will the #2 whether that's Wright or Hall. Just like this year it was Childers or Santa because we knew Graham was average at best. If you're starter doesn't excite you, there's that hope that the back up is really the man who should be starting and it's just a matter of time.

IMO, Wassink is the best returning QB in the west. He played about 70% the amount Childers did and had better numbers. Relatively speaking. That included games vs USC and Mich State.

Whomever throws the fewest interceptions, regardless of how inept the offense becomes, will be the QB. At least that's my concern.

Agreed. Plus, a mistake could put a QB on the bench, that has to be in the back of their minds, which affects their play.

I understand the adversity to turnovers. All coaches want to minimize turnovers. However, it cannot be taken to the extreme and paralyzes the QB and play calling.

It still baffles me; how can a coach be so adverse to turnovers and then call that incredibly dumb fake punt! Even if it worked and we got the PI penalty what would we have gotten? A fresh set of downs at our own 26 yard line after the 15 yard penalty! That was almost a guaranteed "turnover" at our won 11 yard line!

I did not see a better place to post this so I did here.

There seems to be a number of grad transfer QBs. I would love to know if Carey is looking at any or is he happy with what we have?

Hilarious point! So true. Such a conservative putz but then biggest gamble of the entire bowl season!

Post it brotha. Who cares....
Who's available? Do they want to play for such a vanilla offense?

+ Infinty

As a HC you're always going to be seconded guessed but from time to time there's a play call that just confirms that that particular HC should not have been given the keys to the car.

And for me, I'll always think of that play ( not that there haven't been others) as confirmation that RC Should not be a D1 HC.

I think the bigger dumb*** is Frazier now. Guy is in over his head.

Frazier is the guy you claim a a genius. This unmanageable OOC and now may extend Carey.

Rod is that you?!

Sorry, gave myself away there. Actually it might be the QB that's best at running the ball for 2 yards, throwing a deep pass for an incompletion, then running the ball for 3 yards and then punting, will be the next QB.

Offensive guru!

From D3 o line coach to head coach in the orange bowl within one year. Now it's clear why nobody wants Frazier too.

RE: Easy OOC
One thing to consider is alumni like me will only come in once every 3-5 years for a game. Getting NIU to play P5 schools in Dekalb is motivating for me at least. I will be at next years Iowa (away game) and Utah (home) for several reasons, but having 2 games not too far away from where we will be staying is great. We will most likely go to the Utah game in 2019 since it is not too far away and we have a time share near that area. I also think we will be going to the 2020 Maryland game (assuming the team doesn't implode).

In some ways, I don't care if we win, I just want us to have a shot. All of our OOC teams next year are not at their peaks. No one knows how good or bad we will be next year, but I do know our D front 7 will be good. We also have a decent punter now as well. Let's see what happens. See you all next year.

I still can't wait for 2019 with going to Vandy. My guess is that will be one of the better/if not the best OOC attended games since the Orange Bowl. Nashville is one of the most popular areas right now.

It’ll be hard to ever beat Labor Day Saturday 2014 at Northwestern. Game was sold out IIRC and there was more red than purple. So many pics saved on my phone. I’ll forever be grateful to Jim Phillips for those world class memories.

It wont be if we're coming off anotger bad season. We've lost alot of support the last few years. But yes I just moved from Nashville. I was there for a year but it's one of the best tourist party cities. Only 7 drive from Chicago or an easy flight. It is slowing down a bit as they've raised prices for hotels, nightlife, etc.
