I guarantee these players want to play against these teams, if we lose we lose, so be it. I don't agree with Frazier on everything, but putting a tough OOC schedule, I'm fully on board with, even if it means we have more 8 win seasons than 10 win seasons in the next 5 years.
Yes big bowl with big money and big exposure. What will 8 win seasons in the MAC accomplish?
I get what you're saying. But you have to be careful what you wish for. If you get a big bowl because of a 13-0 powder puff schedule, then get destroyed in that bowl game, you may do more harm than good. A tough OOC can at least be a test to how well you can hang with a upper P5.
We should be shooting for the best team we can be...then being slotted into the appropriate bowl. 13-0 or 12-1 next year, and an access bowl may be appropriate.
2 beatable Midwest P5, competitive G5, then a FCS team. That's not powder puff. Just realistic.
Hey maybe Utah, Iowa, byu all will be on down ticks. Fsu has nowhere to go but up next year. Need some breaks and play perfect. If Childers loses job than I'll feel better going into the year.

Next years schedule does set up nicely. Those teams' name value is higher than their play value right now. Hell, his years schedule was ideal..a 7-5 ACC BC, a big name BIG10 in Neb. and a 10-3 once ranked G5 in SDSU. Give me either one 8-4 P5 or two 6-6 P5 along with a 9-3 G5. Thats a tough, but winnable schedule that the critics and naysayers cant dispute.

RE: Easy OOC
A lot of fans have changed their attitudes toward next season's ooc. Iowa will be Iowa and at home they are hard to beat. Florida State looked really good against a team that compares to us. Byu won't be down for long plus they have a bye week before playing us. Utah will be at home so we have a better chance but they are good as well. I am excited about all the great match ups but pray we look better than we did last night.

Lets look at each opponent with facts
FSU finished 6-6 and needed wins over Delaware St and Louisiana Monroe to get a bowl bid. Beat Duke by only 7 and Syracuse by 3. Yeah they beat Florida but Florida is a shell of what they used to be. They are beatable.
First and foremost, I respect NIU and what they have done given the facilities and recruits they work with. NFL players come out of NIU all the time. I am looking forward to another game with FSU for sure next year.
I don't know anything about the other OOC programs, but I do know a little about FSU. This season sucked. Head Coach really bailed on the program after the Alabama game.
While our record was 6-6, we also were close to beating Alabama, Clemson, Miami and Louisville. Other than Alabama, those came down to poor coaching and a freshman QB running a Senior QB offense. I think we are going to be really good next year. Lots of talent coming back and a new coach that uses athletes in space which is what FSU used to be. NIU returns a lot of players as well, so I think it will not be a blowout like we saw yesterday against Southern Miss, but FSU should win by 14 based on wearing down NIU and a couple garbage time TDs late.
NIU fans will love the game day experience, while wives of NIU alumni will not enjoy the tailgate sights. . Hopefully as many of you get a chance to come down and see the greatest game opening tradition in college!

Unless we get a lot better FSU will win by 30+. We had a much better team lose by 21 in the Orange Bowl, and with FSU getting a lot of players back, especially the QB....

Carey and where the program has been trending is why I brought up my fear for next year. A new hire could change fortunes quick.
I love how I got s,hit on a week ago because I hated Carey. Now all this bipolar fans on here come out bashing him. We should never be overly confident facing P5s, especially with Carey!

There have been people on here bashing Carey for some time. The only difference is that the pro-Carey people are eerily quiet right now.

No disrespect intended NIUfrank, but it indicates you joined in Dec. 2017. Spend any amount of time going back through previous threads, especially after games and you'll find just as many people bashing Carey as defending him. Heck, go way back into threads from the 2016 season and you'll find less than stellar evaluations of Carey when it comes to play-calling, sideline demeanor, dealing with the media, etc.

RE: Easy OOC
Outside of maybe BYU (which we will probably also lose), we will lose the other three. We lost by 25 points to a 6-6 Duke team. We won't beat Florida State, Iowa, or Utah teams that all won their bowl games. Utah and Florida State won in dominating fashion no less. Iowa even defeated BC who we lost to at home.

Unless we find a good experienced transfer QB. Unlikely, I know.

Yeah I doubt we can beat a well coached Iowa team twice in a row. Remember this team has steadily declined that several years. I feared this on day one of the Carey hiring. He could ride it out due to cubbards being full but eventually he would deplete the program
Wasn't the guy a d3 o-line coach previous year of orange bowl? Way under qualified! Loved Doeren but he fu,ck,ed us with bringing him on!

For those of you who don't like this formula for OCC:
2017 UCF (how come them and usf can get media to report them unlike no. Illinois vs NIU):
Maine
GT (actually cancelled)
@ Maryland
Austin Peay
Then access bowl
2016 WMU
@Northwestern
North Carolina central
@u of I
Georgia southern
Then access bowl

The question becomes access bowl or playoff? UCF is looking like a top 10 team and that weak OOC schedule hurt them. With a better OOC schedule they could have made the play off. For WMU, the weak OOC schedule helped them over achieve an access bowl.

But what your not considering is other G5 competition. AAC and MW will likely have better conference SOS than the MAC, and if one of those schools get ranked due to a better OOC showing and do well in conference they would get the nod over an NIU cupcake OOC and MAC schedule. If NIU goes, say 3-1 in OOC and undefeated in the MAC that would be a strong resume.

Possibly but how many of them have hard schedules and if so will they win. Just saying it's worked last 2 years and it almost worked back to back years for us right?
Big bowl formula seems to be go undefeated or close to it and get in.

Easy OOC
NIU's brutal OOC schedule was made for one reason and one reason only - money. The record and whether or not they make a bowl is not part of the reasoning. It's also one less home game for the fans, but it makes no difference when it's up against the money.

No P5 can ever make the playoff. Be realistic.

How much? I thought only fsu? Didn't we generate more off orange bowl season and residual bump to fan base with merch and bigger attendance.?

I'm not saying I agree with the schedule. I'm just putting forth Athletics' rationale for scheduling bigger teams OOC.
