Best Game This Year
Even with the L, this is the first time I felt like I was watching a Tigers squad this year. They got punched in the mouth over and over and kept coming for more. They now deserve my butt in the seat at the Forum.

We are definitely finding our chemistry.

Does this fall into the 7-2 record, with 1 moral victory?

Would you rather them not show any improvement as the season progresses?

I agree, and they are progressing.
Think about that for a second....we are now claiming a moral victory in a 9 point loss to an unranked team on a neutral floor with an interim coach.

Improvement in what respect?
Martin got off. He scored 36% of all of Memphis' points. UL still shot 50% from the field. Memphis continues to do what it does best: scrap, offensive rebound, and draw fouls. They only assisted on 33% of shots made. None of that really changed except for the opponent's name on the jersey and the outcome.

UAB and Bama pretty much blew us off the floor. We did not compete with those opponents worth a damn.
In today's L, we were not blown off the court. We competed well.
That is the difference.

If you seriously can't see any improvement from watching the game today, then I'm not really going to discuss it. This team would have been blown out by Louisville if we played this game 2 or 3 weeks ago.

Beat our average in points per game, field goal %, free throw %, 3-point %, turnovers, steals -- all against a top 30 team on a neutral court. I didn't really have to look hard to see improvement in that game compared to whom and where we've been playing to establish those averages. Maybe it's just you and me, though. Some people don't do well with stats or the eye test.

So you are saying we were able to do the same things that we were previously against poor competition against drastically better competition...
Wouldn't that by definition be improvement.
And Martin didn't really get off...He was aggressive but he didn't hit many outside shots.

Mike Parks ... looked real good. Best game yet. Brewton had second consecutive good game. We played like a team ... very watchable basketball. Tubby can't recruit ... but he can coach. I'll be coming to town for a few games ... as of today.

Is that what we pay a coach $3 million to do? Are those the expectations?
If so, sad day.

So all is good because the team has improved by some estimations? They still lack the talent to be a relevant program. They are not a tournament team. Regardless of how hard they play or how well coached they may appear to be, their ceiling is the NIT. So do you want to wait around 2-3 years to watch Tubby trot out a team that might at best sneak into the tournament as a 14 seed only to get drilled immediately?
I don't know about you, but I'd prefer a team that can beat anyone on a given night (doesn't mean they have to be as talented as Kentucky or Duke) and is a tournament team that has the potential to go on a run. Tubby's team cannot do that. They simply don't have the weapons for it.

No all is not good...
But if there is progression that continues throughout the year the end of the year may be promising.
I think that is what most people are saying...That we are improving.

Improving from what? Bad to average? I ask again, is that the expectation?
We can agree to disagree, but this team has absolutely no chance of making the tournament or going on a run in the tournament. If they max out their potential, their ceiling is the NIT.
