In today's L, we were not blown off the court. We competed well.
That is the difference.
Beat our average in points per game, field goal %, free throw %, 3-point %, turnovers, steals -- all against a top 30 team on a neutral court.
So best offensive performance (numbers wise) and a career best game for Martin.
And still lost by 9. Beat the spread by a basket.
At least LSU lost to Stone Cold Austin tonight.
I was just answering your question-- improvement in what respect. I gave you half a dozen. I thought maybe you really didn't see it, and with your well known propensity for statistics, I was surprised you didn't look there first, or did you?
Like I said earlier, they played hard. Still show no post game whatsoever, the defense allowed UL wide open shots. Yes they shot 40% from three, but it was on 4-10 shooting, which isn't a huge difference from 3-10 shooting.
They get tons of hustle points off offensive rebounds and foul shooting. That was no different.
I think some folks really though Memphis would lose by 20+ and tried to then spin the nine point loss into some sort of "continued improvement" belief. Kenpom saw it as a 12 point game, so it's not like Memphis blew away the prediction.
We had 34 points in the paint. That's hardly no post play. We didn't show improvement on 3-point defense, but I suspect that was a result of the game plan to pack the defense in to offset their huge size advantage inside. If we hadn't done that, Mahmoud probably would've had more than 4 points.

You realize all layups as well as offensive rebound putbacks are counted as "points in the paint" right?

Yeah, and I also know how to add up points of our forwards (28 that weren't 3's). Parks probably had his best game. We got the ball inside a lot.

Is that what we pay a coach $3 million to do? Are those the expectations?
If so, sad day.
No, it still sucks. I'm just looking for a silver lining and not blaming the players.

Game time spread was 12.5. But carry on.

Think about that for a second....we are now claiming a moral victory in a 9 point loss to an unranked team on a neutral floor with an interim coach.
Y'all were still yammering on this nonsense.
Recognizing improved play is not claiming a moral victory.
Stop already.
Wanted to win. Wanted to win the football title game over a team that hammered us earlier in the season.
Was disappointed we lost. Very disappointed. But still recognized we played so much better than the earlier game. In assville that is claiming a moral victory. In realityville it is commenting on the game.

I think that is where a lot of us are right now...
We want to love the players win or lose as long as they work hard, get better and represent the university well.
Now the coaches should be held accountable for losing a bunch of games.

Players progressed from the level of play in the first half against UALR to the first half against Louisville all on their own? They must be the epitome of self-motivation! We need to recruit a bunch more just like 'em.
