Eastern moving forward with its Championship Building Plan
Eastern's Board of Regents gave the go ahead for ground breaking to take place this coming January. It will compose 66,000 square feet, and will be located at the Northern End of Rynearson Stadium.

Nice work EMU. Looks great. Time for Kent to step up now. Eastern now has a 1st class basketball arena and soon to be football stadium set-up. If EMU can pull this off, then there is no reason Kent cant.

Kent already has an indoor practice facility and was the first in the MAC to have one... The MAC continues to follow in Kent's foot steps.

We live in a 'what have you done for me lately' facilities culture, frankly an IPF that's old enough to drink isn't impressive unless it's been updated. And even if you ignore that, you can't ignore the yellow student bleachers at Dix...

It was updated 3 years ago giving the womens teams their own locker rooms and coaches offices. As well as updating the weight room. But it is just a practice facility there isn't much to any of them.

Fans, especially EMU fans, need to realize this is Phase I.

What ground will be broken for in January is part of the entire project. The entire project is 45M. What will be started next month is part (20M) of the project.

It will be the 'football building' WITH a very nice video board on its face.

I believe the indoor track, etc. etc. is phase II.

That said, to most MAC FB fans, that is most of us, this is the most important part. Getting a nice building and video board up in that end zone.

I believe that the track will need to be removed so that the football building can extend into where the track is now. Might be wrong, but I also think the football field might be moved southward some (10 - 20 yards????).

So does that mean you will get rid of the awful grey field too

We really need to replace the video scoreboard in our Convo. It is really bad.

Looks like a real nice set-up for EMU... Congratulations !!
Would like to see them start filling the Rynearson... This will springboard their recruiting efforts and pay dividends for future success and attendance increase...04-cheers

Interesting that they're going to keep the bubble. I expected they'd remove it when they installed a more permanent building.

Ship it down to Ball State, then everybody in the league will have some type of IPF.

Dear Bronc33,
It may be taken down, but I don't think it will. The reasons are many, but one of the main reasons is it is rented to soccer teams or others as a practice facility.

I need to clarify based on information I deem credible (starting to sound like a news man).

The football field will NOT be moved. It is possible to build the "new Phase I building' without tearing down the existing football building OR moving the track.

The new building will be in the NW corner of Rynearson and will not extend onto the playing field. Changes will happen when the new IPF is built. That will require the demolition of the existing football building.

The only changes to the playing field will be as part of Phase II.

Then the track will be moved and the football field outside the lines can be all green, as shown in the video.

Quite frankly, the visual (aesthetic) changes in Phase I won't be great: The new building will be barely visible in the NW corner of Rynearson. The one visual change will be a standalone video board in that end zone.

The hard part will be a new video board (standalone) and how to make it work with the exiting football building and then with the new IPF.

If it were me, I'd wait until 2019 on the video board. After the new building is built, I'd demolish the existing football building and place the video board there. The new IPF would be right behind it, when built.

Quite an achievement for the Eagles. With these upgraded facilites the Eagles will have an easier time recruiting in metro Detroit, Ontario or any other markets they want to build in.

To be fair, UB broke ground on theirs this fall and in 1990 UB was a DII team. It's been 18 years since we moved up, too long to wait, but we are now there.

I think it looks pretty sweet

CMU AD Alford just announced CMU is in discussion with architects on developing an endzone building for kelly-shorts stadium. Apparently this is going to be a massive project which will fill in the north endzone and link the east and west stands together. no plans are out yet but this will also include updated video board.

I'd assume, if I understand correctly, that CMU would like to do what our "Phase I" - 20M for an endzone building + video board.

We had new lights installed earlier this year.

We need a new press box badly. I guess the range there can be up to 10M.
