Anthony MIller makes consensus All-American
http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sp...um=twitter

Quote:Usually, a player is named a consensus all-American if he earns first team honors from at least two of the five all-America teams recognized by the NCAA. In college football, the lists used are compiled by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Associated Press, the Football Writers Association of America, the American Football Coaches Association and the Sporting News.

Miller earned first team all-American honors from the AP and the AFCA and got tabbed as a second team selection by the FWAA and the Sporting News.

But since Miller and Colorado State's Michael Gallup were each named first team all-American by two organizations, the NCAA elected to give both Miller and Gallup consensus all-American status at wide receiver along with unanimous selection James Washington of Oklahoma State

Miller’s remarkable journey from walk-on to All-American is complete. He thrives on disrespect, so I hope some slight fuels his engine. 03-wink

It's interesting following football recruiting. Stars definitely matter. I wouldn't debate that Alabama has bigger, stronger and faster athletes, but I've seen 4 star dudes barely play at Memphis and walk-ons become All-Americans. Sometimes the experts miss really bad.

It's like investing in an index fund vs picking your own stocks

Bama is the index fund - they diversify with 60 highly rated recruits, so for every dud they get 2 All-Americans

The rest of us are mostly invested in penny stocks, and every now and then we get a good deal on single blue chip. Most of us are going to fail, but every now and then someone gets lucky

That's a damn good analogy
