ESPN Cautions Employees To Stay Away From Opinions On Politics: ‘Stick To Sports’
Quote:On Wednesday, ESPN gathered up all their employees at its home base in Bristol, Connecticut for a two-hour summit to iron out a few things for the upcoming year. According to Worldwide leader’s press release, the meeting was about two main topics: 1. ESPN is fine. 2. Stick to sports.

Almost two months ago, ESPN put out new social media guidelines, following the comments from Jemele Hill about President Donald Trump being a White Supremacist, and it had to do with limiting who can break news on Twitter as well as political posts on social media sites.

Here’s what the employees were told at the Summit:

“ESPN is a journalistic organization – not a political organization. We should do nothing to undermine that position,” he said. “ESPN’s focus is sports. By-and-large we are not experts on politics, healthcare policies, terrorism, commerce – that’s not what we do.

“Our audience is not looking for our opinions on the general news of the day,” he added. “And believe me, I get it. It can sometimes be difficult to control impulses or ignore trolls, but that’s what we’re called to do for each other.”

ESPN has seen a drastic drop in subscriptions and ratings over the past two years as people have been turned off by the constant reminders of the real world when all they want to hear about is sports and sports related topics.

Many days late and many dollars short, what will Steven A Smith talk about now that race is off his docket?

Liberals in the mainstream media like ESPN lie to our faces on a daily basis and think we’re stupid enough to believe they don’t have an anti-conservative bias. Even "sticking to sports" can't remove those biases.

Political biases are the new American religion. You’re damn right they aren’t going to give up those biases. Fox isn’t either.

Nor is anyone else. The best we can hope for is an environment where all are available and we can watch all and determine for ourselves what makes sense.

No it doesn't. It's adorable you think it does, though.

I've watched sports all my life and I have coached several sports for over 10 years. I have taught students many, many life lessons through sports. What it means to win and to lose. How to take both with dignity. How to overcome adversity. How to challenge yourself to be the best.

This are all things that happen in sports and in life.

Roughly half of Americans will disagree with any given political stance. Tell me again how a sports network pissing off half their fan base at any given time is a good idea?

It's as adorable as the crowd that thinks politics is the main factor in driving the cord cutting.
