Sports is entertainment. Politics isn't. Sports is a uniter. Politics isn't. Nobody ever said to avoid talking sports and religion at a party.
Sports journalists are among the dumbest journalists and that is saying a lot. I don't want to hear morons spout stupid political opinions when I'm trying to enjoy myself watching a football game.

There is a story attributed to Joe Namath, who wasn't necessarily the brightest, but was quick with a quip. At his firs press conference at signing his then-unheard-of $400,000 contract with the Jets, he was asked, "Is it true you majored in basket-weaving at Alabama?"

Joe answered, "Not exactly. You see, I started out in basket-weaving, but I was having such a hard time making grades that I had to change my major to journalism"

I can't vouch for the accuracy of the story, but I can vouch for the fact that there have been hundreds if not thousands of brain-dead comments by sportscasters and sportswriters that have left me thinking, "Joe Namath was right."

Bob Knight used to say that if he could have a new start he would like a reporter’s brain, as it has not been used yet.

Spot the hell on right there. It used to be, you'd invite people over on a weekend, if you know them well and you're all okay doing it you could discuss politics but it remained a bit taboo. So instead, you chat sports, likely football. Now, everyone knows that if you bring the NFL up in a group setting like that, at LEAST one person is going to say, "I don't watch that BS... kneeling... etc." So you now avoid bringing up the NFL, turning the game on, etc. The NFL did this to itself.

That's why sports should remain separate from politics. It's too late for the NFL at this point. It's going to take a few years of them avoiding the topic completely for a large contingent of Americans to forgive and forget. They won't though. Roger Goodell and the players married the NFL to politics, and did so with a one-sided, hell-bent agenda.

The best part is they also married themselves to fantasy football, but it's entirely possible to enjoy and play fantasy football without actually watching the games. I've been doing it for over a year. Problem, is fantasy football doesn't write their checks. Eventually their cash cow is going to run dry thanks to their bad choices as players, owners, and league leadership.

Anybody watch ESPN this weekend to see if there was any difference? The only time I watched was when we went to grab a late supper Saturday night and I watched a little of the Camellia Bowl on a muted TV at the grill. Other than that I was busy processing deer I killed Thursday afternoon and Friday.

How much are deer tags in your neck of the woods?

I paid $25 for my resident combination hunting, fishing, and big game permit which gives me three buck tags and eight dated antlerless tags. For an additional $20 I purchased four anytime antlerless tags. So far this year I've used one buck tag because the other three deer I've killed were on management properties that get property specific tags issued to them.

No idea what the non-resident fees are, but I know they are significantly more in cost and you get fewer tags.

Wow that's a lot of meet you get for cheap.

It's significantly more expensive in Texas.

Used to be even better. This is the first year that there are tags and limits on bucks in the Lowstate. Before you could kill as many as you wanted. No seasonal or daily limits from Aug 15 - Jan 1.

The guy who owns the property I hunted Thursday & Friday killed 23 deer last year by himself, they killed 180-something total on his 1200 acre farm between him, his family & friends they let hunt. He still lost around $10k from crop damages from the deer this growing season.

I guess you could say that deer aren't on the endangered species list anywhere close to where you live.......plenty of them where I live as well..04-cheers

Oh yeah, especially the further out you get. Here in town we have a few. Lately there's been a herd of six does and yearlings that feed down my fence line and drive my dogs crazy.

You used to be able to ride around and spotlight deer before 11PM as long as you didn't have any weapons in the vehicle. During the late summer we would drop the top on the Jeep, put the kids in car seats in the back and ride around in the boondocks for a few hours. Wouldn't be a big deal to shine a 10 acre soybean or peanut field and there be a hundred sets of eyes looking back at you.

Sadly they changed the law to where you can only spotlight property you own or lease. Our hunting property isn't conducive to spotlighting so we haven't done it in a while.
