Memphis football hasn't always been looked at kindly by local coaches who often have the aspirations of coaching at the next level but never given the opportunity by Memphis. This move alone sends out a great message to local coaches as an olive branch of goodwill and opportunity. I can easily see local coaches encouraging their players to give Memphis a shot. Why? Because the next time opportunity knocks it could be on one of their doors.

Gr8 post.....KUDOS!!!!

Yes, hiring an assistant to get a player is more of a college basketball thing (unless you are Tubby Smith). It will help with local recruiting and he seems to be a really good coach. Should be a win win for both Jones and Norvell.

No, it happens a lot in football, which was the tipping point in why the NCAA changed the rule. You know have to be an on-field coach or can't sign anyone from you school two years prior to your hiring or afterwards. Keeps it from being an incentive to recruits or reward for sending them there.

If it was primarily a basketball thing, they wouldn't stress the on the field coaching aspect.

*kinda glad Tubby doesn't do it, because when it misses... it can destroy a program.
